Can't find the last volume online (and I don't have room for hardcover comics in my house lol), so I'm done with Gundam the Origin for now. The full color version of this comic looks gorgeous.
The prequel portion of the comic is pretty mid. All the lore and extra background stuff about UC0079 isn't really what I find exciting about the series.

For years now I've thought that mechs make really good modern day storytelling equivalents for Golems, with their pilots as representatives of their "Will".
I'm not super familiar with the early giant robot stuff, but I think series like Tetsujin #28 and Mazinger Z were pulling a lot from old golem stories.
Wouldn't surprise me. Everything is a take on something else. Turtles all the way down and all that.
