after Sandy Hook happened and no one did anything about it, it became clear that mass shootings were just going to be treated like they're endemic. every couple days you'll hear about one and move on with your day. fact of nature, we just can't do anything about it.
I feel like Columbine was when the window to do something about it opened, and Sandy Hook was when it was firmly shut.
Their was a mass shooting in my area a couple years back at a store. Same chain store my mom used to work at. I remember waking up to the news and calling my mom who was on night shift to make sure she was okay, so it hits close to home. It could have been her if the cards lined up a different way.
They're a normalized pressure valve that kills a few dozen people at the time while maintaining the sociopolitical and material status quo that keeps resulting in those shootings.
