By the standard of a tortoise, humans don’t live very long. Ergo tortoises and other long-lived creatures should eat people.
sustainable sources of protein
Boy, do I have a plant to tell you about. Starts with a B....
What the fuck kind of take is this. Let's eat our dogs, why not, they "only live" a couple years.
edit: ugh, this disgusts me so much. Length of Life = More Worthiness is such a bullshit position.
Since everyone’s weighing in, like kids here’s the thing - even if cephalopods are “intelligent” they still only live a couple years and are one of the more sustainable sources of animal protein, which some do need, so comparing this to factory farming is dishonest tbh
Shut the fuck up and go eat crickets if you care that much about "sustainable sources of animal protein". Cephalopods cannot be farmed sustainably because no fucking animal can be farmed sustainably.
Arguably most things are compatible with environmentalism if you don't do them too much and compensate the damage you do.
Like people can have a bit of flying planes as a treat as long as most other things are carbon negative.
Because only 10% of the calories animals consume can be recovered through consumption of their meat which is very inefficient
Sure, it's inefficient, but that doesn't mean it can't be done sustainably. Hell, some people been "farming animals" sustainably for centuries.
It could be done, but not on a big scale, if we want to stop global warming we need to stop feeding people with meat since its just inefficient and a big producer of greenhouse gasses
I agree, I'm just being pedantic about the "animals can't be farmed sustainably" thing.
Man, when I was a new vegan I used to enjoyed debunking all the galaxy-brained arguments omnies come up with, but now they just get me annoyed and angry.
Contrapoinst and Ellis are both better than centrist or reactionary chuds who would otherwise fill their space. They are libs, to be sure, but are a first step that many take on their way to the left.
Speciesism is a trip. I mean I still suffer from it to some degree, I feed my cats meat, but atleast I feel bad about it.
get ready for a carnist drive-by calling you an animal abuser lol
the cowards can´t just downbear me, they´d need sources. Facts don´t care about carnist feelings :soy-chill:
it is more that I am favouring the life of the cat because of it's connection to me over the chickens and cows i feed her.
There is vegan cat food but it's probably still more expensive than standard store kibble.
She's also ignoring that your perception of time is different based on how long you live / have lived, so the time you'd be robbing that animal of is essentially worth more to the animal from an experiential perspective.
Also, somebody please tell the libs that dehumanization is the basis for all discrimination and proceeds every genocide of other humans, and whether something is human or not is not a good moral basis for anything. Maybe the impulse to say that something isn't human and is therefore okay to kill / consume is a morally dangerous and reprehensible one, as evidenced by stuff like the holocaust, and slavery.
