Seriously subreddits like “Indian Facebook” are pretty friggin racist and allowed to do openly for some people odd reason. It’s literally just anglicized whites trying to put posts up that frame Indians as sexy crazed imbeciles obsessed with white women and then laughing about said posts amongst each other. I’m lucky I’m a Jew, they haven’t been paying much attention to us lately. Also, how the hell is it allowed? Shit isn’t borderline racist, it is racist in some posts

Really just shit lord as hell.

Sex crazed Indian is actually a colonial racist idea made up by the British the same way black men’s sexuality was portrayed as violent in american media and even porn today.

When Indian resistance drove the British out they made up numerous false accounts of mass rapes of white women in India. The stigma stuck and resurfaced when Indians and Pakistanis migrated to TERF island in the 20th century.

It’s allowed because Reddit doesn’t care unless it gives them bad publicity lol. They literally allowed softcore child porn for half its existence because ‘muh free speech’

Altho tbh there is a ton of misogyny in India today. Plus a lot of sexual repression due to conservative values and shit like that. So when a white woman is walking a busy street, all the dudes just stare at her with no sense of shame or whatever. So it's a weird situation for sure, but no excuse for the racist jokes. Plus the fucking Hindu nationalist shit isn't helping because it maintains male dominance. I have relatives who are straight up Hindu nationalists and proud of it. It sucks...

In TERF island during last election there were a surprising amount of Labour supporters who just as enthusiastically supported Modi. It was weird.

Yeah India does have a lot of issues with misogyny. I have distant family there too. It’s especially dangerous/unheard of for women to travel or live alone in some parts. It doesn’t look like the social conservatism will go anywhere in the near future, especially in the rural parts where most people live.

...but the white women staring also originates from colonial beauty standards. Even to this day the biggest Indian celebrities (cricketers and actors) endorse and advertise skin lightening products, bleach their skin etc. Most of Indian film history was dominated by white passing actors with very pale skin and dark skin was used for comic relief/portray evil etc. Rich families arrange marriages for their kids with people with whiter skin tones. It’s wild.

Ive dealt with a few guys who absolutely refuse to take orders from women, despite those women being obviously better trained than them. But theyll take the orders from me, despite being far less trained on the same equipment.

In my opinion it's no different than the standard misogyny/sexism in the western countries. I think this person summarizes it well:

it's because white = 5 million irrelevant details and hugbox ethnicities like burgundian and transnistrian

entire Indian subcontinent of 1.6 billion people = "Indian"

and no, europe isn't a continent or even a subcontinent. also fuck whites

My white friends still think I eat North Indian food even though my family is from an island almost two billion people to the south. Try feeding haggis to an ital*an.

I'm from South Africa, so I have a little bit of understanding. My countries borders, as well as most countries on the continent, make zero sense. At least South Africa got to re draw it's provincial borders post 1994 to make some sense.

Personally I don't feel too bothered by it, but that's mostly because I didn't spend my whole life growing up in the west. And it's not like we ourselves don't make fun of these same sex pests all the time, it's not like we don't constantly do the exaggerated indian-uncle accent as a joke. But I imagine for some desi kid who grew up as a minority and had to constantly deal with hearing things like "thank you, come again" from people who don't look like them, it must be harmful.

During my college years, a white guy once told me that I smell like curry, it was just a joke, he wasn't being malicious, just some friendly banter. But it hurt me so much that I think I never touched curry for many years, even though I love curry. So I can absolutely understand how it must feel different when you know the person making fun of your culture or your people is an outsider.

But at the same time to me it feels somewhat hypocritical to claim something like oh you can't make fun of desi people unless you are one yourself, you can't do the indian accent unless you are one yourself. After all no brit has ever been offended by me making fun of their absolutely awful food or their weird accents. So honestly I don't know how to feel about this, maybe the only way forward is more representation of brown people in media and by normalizing the idea that subcontinental people can be as diverse and different from each other as any other group. So that even if stereotypes exist and are being made fun of by everyone, the indian kids growing up can still have some examples to look at and tell themselves - no it's not my ethnicity that is the butt of the joke, it's just silly behavior of some individuals that is being mocked. And I think Master of None is such a perfect example of this, we need more shows like master of none.

This for sure. I was so glad to finally see a show that wasn't a one of two polar opposites: 1) Kal Penn in Van Wilder as the sexually repressed Indian who needs to find a white woman to have sex with, or 2: Kal Penn in Harold and Kumar as the opposite extreme, a guy who's does everything to rebel against his parents.

The "Parents" episode actually made me cry, it was so good, and it hit so close to home. My father also used to be afraid of picking up the phone, even though he speaks pretty good english.

I’m serious. I would get tired of that shit, especially the fact it’s even allowed up, it’s just jokes and stereotypes at Indian people’s expense.

Yeah, I'm from a middle-eastern country, and although I don't get picked on as much as Indian people, it can be really hurtful when people make fun of my nationality even if they don't intent to be. I wasn't mocking you, I agree.

I thought that was the case, yeah I’m Jewish. I agree I don’t get mocked as much as Indians do in the west, and I still get hurt by it. I don’t think there should be entire forums on the internet dedicated to stereotyping and joking about an entire group of people. Call me crazy lol.

basically all south asian people get mocked on those subreddits/pages. i used to like those pages a lot, even as a south asian person, but looking back its definitely racist. it bothers me more now, and a few years ago i was just laughing with them.

Racist jokes about Indian people, especially men, seem to fall under the same blind spot on the liberal wokeness radar as jokes about East Asian people, especially men.

I dont mean to imply that men have it worse, but I find that sometimes libs will chime in with a "thats sexist" if someone makes a joke about Asian women.
