You should watch the Sopranos, as Felix and Matt have pointed out it (maybe accidentally) is a commentary on decline in America, and on some pathologies of suburban America. But even beyond that it's just really well written. The dialogue usually flows nicely, there are lots of little subplots which almost always have some payoff (unlike a lot of shows out there).

Really not sure about the movie in the whole. At least Americans think they are the good guys in the movie.
