You should watch the Sopranos, as Felix and Matt have pointed out it (maybe accidentally) is a commentary on decline in America, and on some pathologies of suburban America. But even beyond that it's just really well written. The dialogue usually flows nicely, there are lots of little subplots which almost always have some payoff (unlike a lot of shows out there).

Really not sure about the movie in the whole. At least Americans think they are the good guys in the movie.

      Also Snowpiercer.

And I just finished reading The Dispossessed, it's incredible, every leftist should read it. IIRC Guillermo del Toro is some sort of anarchist, and if so I think he could make a great adaptation of it into a movie.

It is good to hate the things the rest of the working class likes because it clearly makes you seem more relatable and not at all like a miserable asshole.

People watching that stuff are numerous enough to make a ton of those grifters a lot of money, but I don't think they're large enough to hold very significant influence. Like Tim Poole's channel viewership is comparable to the video console repair channel I like watching, and I imagine watching someone repair consoles is on the more obscure side of interests.

good point, fox news and all that culture war BS is the only thing I hear from conservatives (especially recently with that lilnasx video).

What's next, are you going to tell people to go to the opera? Get with the times grandpa. The only type of sport anyone outside of boomers cares about is esport.

I bet they wouldn't be fun if you A: had no knowledge of the sports in question and B: went alone because you have no friends and also C: weren't open to learning about the sports or making new friends. Like maybe fold your arms and glare the whole time and also whenever the crowd gets excited about anything yell "this is dumb. You're all dumb for liking this. It's just a ball traveling through space."

Some of the things the working class likes are dogshit, tho.

Like, listen to the "Time for my Stories" bit on LOST. Classic example of people just kinda getting sucked into the Mystery Box and caring very hard about a thing that was utterly hollow and pointless. Or, fuck, anything flavored with Game Of Thrones.

Well done and slightly problematic media is actually kind of great. You get an enjoyable movie/book/Vidya, and you also get an insight into different types of borderline reactionary mindsets that are actually pretty prevalent in society.

This here. Socialism is fringe in the west, especially when it comes to media that's aimed at all demographics like summer blockbusters. Nearly nothing is gonna have good politics in relation to... reality I guess. To our viewpoint as leftist. The politics of the media need to be compared to the average political climate of the society, which in America is still pretty conservative capitalist friendly stuff.

I think a huge indicator of the change in political views is how Marvel does soldiers. Notice how most all action movies with a big bad usually include the military, someone logically sometimes just cus they got DoD money and didn't plan on it originally (cus nearly all of them get DoD money including marvel). But with marvel even though the army and other armed forces are portrayed very well, their are rarely in the movie. You almost never see US soldiers in marvel movies despite them getting DoD money and being in that genre. The fact is they don't put them in because that trope isn't popular like it used to be. Hell they don't even show cops as 100% right all the time anymore (recent show had cops profile a black superhero). To me that shows at least some movement back into the right direction. That even this super safe series that is meant for nearly all demos is doing that isn't a bad thing.

Sure it's not like they're great but we're talking about media conglomerates in the worldwide capitalist empire's homeland. Perspective is important.

Casablanca has a former international brigade member shoot a Nazi dead in broad daylight in front of a cop. Pretty balling.

I'm generally not a huge fan of older B&W movies, because I find the cinematography & acting to be a bit foreign and distracting. But Casablanca fucking rules.

Check out The Treasure of the Sierra Madre.

Not only does it slap and have a legit good message, but it's where the "Badges? We don't need no stink'n badges!" guy comes from.

It's incredible how many people insist Rian is a hack and a terrible filmmaker when he has multiple bangers under his belt, just because they didn't like The Last Jedi. Like yeah, it's a really messy movie with some pretty big missteps, but there was a vision behind it. Has JJ Abrams ever had a coherent vision for fucking anything he's ever made?
