  • It’s just a secularist word for “God will provide in His mysterious ways.” It’s Calvinist to its core that there is a predetermined fate for all subjects under capitalism and nothing will ever change that. It’s also mixed with a financial Pascal’s Wager that, yes, capitalism might be fake and predicated on human suffering BUT I might get to be the one giving the pain someday so I shouldn’t rock the boat so I might be wealthy. American society is founded in a mire of tax dodging libertarians and neurotic Jesus freaks.

  • I’m so grateful for my parents reading about these examples...my dads at least some kind of liberation catholic who is anti-abortion but for some incredibly idealistic reasons that I think I helped point him in the direction to socialism (eg his views not mine but: birth control should be free, sex Ed should be better, single moms should get total assistance, parents need assistance with raising kids, and EVEN nonviable offspring should not be born especially if the mothers life is at risk; all of this is a huge step for him mind you). He also said that the Romanovs deserved what they got and the entire confederate military and polity should’ve been executed lol.

  • Hey sounds like my workplace. The working class, especially the white working class, has been incredibly propagandized when it comes to damn near any cultural or economic issue. Most of these people have trauma that they’ve never really confronted and it’s excused via propaganda. I know a guy who does my job but wishes he was an engineer, who hates engineers, but falls back on, “well, I was a shitty student who didn’t put the effort in so I deserve this.” No motherfucker! If you want to be an engineer you should be able to go to school and try at least, but he’s so cowed and submissive to the system that he literally thinks he’s deserves to break his back because of grades in high school. So many people bitch about welfare recipients or welfare scammers and it’s like they don’t even know that the biggest frauds in the country are the assholes getting billions in tax breaks. I want to challenge them but I get so tongue tied, but maybe I need to speak up a bit more and direct their attention elsewhere. It’s like they have the anger and energy and it’s all pointed in the wrong direction. Same reason I can’t fault trump people who aren’t nazis: the system has failed, but they diagnosed it the wrong way.

  • Fallout 3 is, in many ways, a modernized retelling of Fallout 1 with slight tweaks to make it feel more original than it is (and I say this as someone who loves 3). However, New Vegas is stronger in that it does what 1 and 2 did well: give perspective on a post-apocalyptic America 200 years after the bombs fell. The Capital Wasteland felt insanely empty and uninhabited for being a major region 200 years after the war whereas the Mojave wasteland felt far more lived in with more lore and character development.

  • I don’t see it happening to be quite honest. I know the rebel government wants it, and the US will continue using them as an outpost for the foreseeable future, but if Beijing ever says, “hey, that’s ours and we’d like it back,” I could see a struggling American empire saying, “Fuck it, go ahead.” Also lol at the idea of China wanting war with the US and not vice versa, or does China do annual naval drills with Cuba in the Gulf of Mexico and I’m just not aware?

Love me some honeybees and bumblebees. Carpenter bees are dicks though. Still, honeybees and bumblebees are quite docile and vital for our food chain, plus bumblebees are awesome little guys because they just wanna pollinate and keep to themselves.

  • Not quite the answer you’re looking for, but I’ll shoot. Die setter with a plastic injection company. It can be stressful with our schedule, it’s physically taxing (sorry knees, sorry back), and it’s dirty as hell (you never quite wash the grease and oil off your arms)...BUT it’s fun in a way, you have to be mentally present, it’s a great workout (I’ve never been in better shape) and it’s interesting. Not saying you should move to the Midwest to make plastic car parts, but manual labor can be really enjoyable in the right circumstances. Plus you can play with tools which are essentially toys with the right mindset (“oh boy I can run to the hardware store for a new ratchet! I can’t wait to work with it!”). Just my two cents.

“Hmmm...we lost an election that was basically symbolic and the worst I might ever face is getting kicked off social media for saying the gamer word...I know! Better start an insurrection and get myself hunted down by the largest surveillance state that’s ever existed!” These people are fucking rubes who literally can’t log off or just ignore cultural shit they don’t like.

  • Love to be 18 years old, seeing some of the harshest combat in human history and going home to bury my trauma in liquor and a facade of a marriage. I’ve studied WWII for a long ass time and even had a job interviewing the old boys that fought and they’re still emotionally fucked from what they saw and did. These pricks who think that WWII was some noble crusade can fuck all the way off; it was a bloody struggle to stop (or at least mitigate) fascism. I hope to God we never have to do it again but, oopsie doodle the Soviet Union collapsed and the US is teetering on the edge of going all blood and soil so...yay. Maybe Millennials and Zoomers will be seen as worthwhile subjects once we’re all fucking traumatized from barbaric guerrilla warfare.

  • The most historic year in history?! COVID is bad but it’s not exactly this epoch defining moment. It’s an historical year sure, but the most historic year in recorded history? Fuck off Black Mirror you bunch of pseudo-intellectual ninnies. 2020 was a bad year for a lot of people, but to think it was the worst time for mankind reeks of historical illiteracy and narcissism.

  • I’ll lend some old man advice, because I feel like an old man seeing these questions from high school kids (also, good for you for not being a lib like I was at your age):

“Hi this is sergeant asshole with the US Army is this TheBigCat?”

(Tired, sleeping in, cocky from summertime sex) “Uh huh.”

    “Have you considered enlisting?»

“I wouldn’t die for this country or any of the slobs that live in it.”

    “...Fair enough”

    Never got another call.
