  • Definitely separating your work and home. Best case is a completely different locations for each, worst case you can change up the lighting and/or go to a different corner of your living space. Try to find a place other than the crowded library or other typical big study spaces. "Insert major here" social areas are good, typically the mood matches the assignments and its not a bad thing for somebody in the same class to see what you're doing to come up and see if you want to work together. Pick two or three days to be your two-ish hour work periods, and frame them around food or something else you can trick your brain with. When you get there, eat a snack you like and start working. After your work time, go take lunch or dinner or whatever

I was gonna ask if there are any states that haven't had any, and it looks like both Alaska and Hawaii have somehow skirted this phenomena. Any mainland ones I missed?

Lockpicking is fun. I worked nights at a plant being commissioned so I had tons of time to wander the facility alone and find random locks to pick. In my experience there are two kinds of locks: Zero skill and everything else. It's surprising how many times you'll run into a lock that can be opened in seconds with a simple rake attack. It's also surprising how many locks just fall apart when you try to pick them. Like, the core just falls out when you dig a little too deep and dislodge whatever is retaining it. It also gives you something to do with your hands while watching a movie or whatever. Also people love talking with you about it and you can shut them up for at least half an hour if you give them your kit and a lock to play with.
