yeah I don't like this at all. the "tribe" "home land" and "shaman" thing seems really weird and pretty overtly racist to me. plus the face paint, agh, it just doesn't sit right with me. it has weird boomer meme vibes as well.

  • I really love 40s and 50s women's fashion for some odd reason. Clothes were so much more well made and much more flattering. It's an extremely pretty and fun style. idk about the other elements of the time, interior design was so tacky lol, but some midcentury design is cool and I like the graphic design as well.

I have a similar passion for victorian fashion, specifically the 1890s, but sadly it's much less socially acceptable to wear in public lol. I love the hairstyles and the silhouettes of the time. give me a good petticoat and bustle and I'll be in love. The attention to detail and ornateness on older clothes is beautiful in a way we never see today. Basically I guess I wish clothes were more well made. Fast fashion has seriously killed any sort of art in people's everyday wardrobes.

  • yeah it's important to distinguish between education and school. school is the problem because it actually hinders real education, just like you were saying before! I'm all for education, just when it is consensual and non-coercive

  • thrifting all of my clothes, pirating all the media I consume, and using ad block and blocking trackers. also when I was in high school I always let people copy my homework, not sure how much it helped lmao, but it made me feel like I was sticking it to my school when I absolutely despised it and thought homework shouldn't exist (which I still strongly believe, the school system fuckin sucks)

  • no need to apologize, reaching out to vent when you need to is always a good thing.

when I get worked up about school I like to reflect back on past experiences where I've been really upset about similar things. most of the time I realize I've almost completely forgotten about them. as cliche as it is, this too will pass. it won't always be as intense as it seems in the moment. just focus on the things within your control and you're gonna be okay <3 <3

yeah i've shopped at all kinds of consignment type stores and I'd agree. It's definitely much better than buying new. honestly though, thrift stores are still really cheap unless you're in LA or NY or something. true vintage clothes (1970s and earlier) are worth the price too. you really just have to find the right stores.

i got my boots a few months back and still haven't broken them in lol :(

I definitely think thrifted clothes are a big lefty thing. also hand making and personalizing clothes. Of course thrifting encompasses essentially any style, but I think the ethos behind it is what makes it left. I personally thrift all of my clothes and then make the more unique pieces i want. (also more people should learn how to sew, at least enough to repair clothes)

also every leftist should own at least one pair of combat boots :p

yeah I thought the discord was cool at first, but I feel like the charm has worn off. every time I go there it’s kind of just nonsense, like I have no clue what people are talking about lol. also, to the people saying it’s teenagers, the server is 18+ so it’s probably not that.

yeah, I completely understand that! it might help to think about the issues you're passionate about and the things your good at and then brainstorm some ideas with those two things in mind. maybe you could put flyers up or something to find people. or even better just get started and you'll probably find that people reach out to you. there's plenty of resources online too if you need help with first steps. to list a few good ones: the Rebel Steps podcast and this article about affinity groups. Hope this helps!!

also, if you really can't find anything good in your area, maybe start your own project. I know it's possibly more of a time suck and certainly not doable for everyone, but it would be good to at least consider! If anyone you know might be interested hit them up, and if not you could always do something alone. best of luck finding some way to get involved. I'm sure you will!
