How would you define imperialism then?

To degrees of condemnation -- doesn't Russia deserve more condemnation in light of the fact that they are the aggressor state? Certainly, Ukraine is a capitalist country that exploits its population just like anywhere else, but the invasion by Russia is killing the proletariat of Ukraine.

And yes NATO is to blame, and that should absolutely be acknowledged when we assess this situation, but nonetheless, Russia is also to blame. Putin chose to invade. And by doing so, he's done more to strengthen NATO than anyone else since the end of the Cold War. Thus, not only has he strengthened the very institution that contributed to this situation, he's also responsible for the thousands of Ukrainian and Russian lives that have been lost in this war.

  • I mean the thing that really makes me think this isn't real is why would the US fund a bioweapons lab in Eastern Ukraine when must have known that Russian invasion was likely and that a bioweapons lab could easily be captured by the Russians? Like, wouldn't it make a lot more sense to position something like that in western Ukraine, or to even just smuggle bioweapons into the country if that's their goal?

I mean I think the thing is that like, the US and NATO are going to be sending weapons to Ukraine whether Americans support it or not. Even if public opinion was firmly opposed, they'd just continue sending weapons but wouldn't broadcast it publicly. My real issue is that the argument that Russia is doing something bad is somehow implicitly linked to an argument for NATO escalation/involvement. But then so what, I can't say I think that Russia's imperialist invasion of Ukraine is a bad thing? Like what the fuck are we doing then? Can't we condemn Russia and NATO?

  • Yes, thank you! I think this is so spot on. The multipolar world does not seem to me to hearken a better world for socialist organizing. Everything we're seeing in the reaction to this and the way that Russia is framing it supports the fascist nationalist worldview of competition between nations and races. Online is nothing but fascists champing at the bit (and of course liberals and conservatives always show their fascist idealization when a nationalist war presents itself). If anything good comes of it, maybe it will be the weaking of the dollar hegemony, but exactly how that the play out, I don't know.

  • One thing I definitely don't buy that you hear a lot of leftists say, including the Chapo boys, is that this whole UFO thing is a US op in order to stir up fear to get more money for the military. Honestly, that just seems ridiculous to me. Like its the US, the military hardly needs something as crazy as UFOs to get increases in military spending not to mention the ratcheting up of tensions with China serves the purpose far better

  • Great article. He definitely hits it with:

Both candidates have long track records of supporting mass incarceration, deportations, racist police violence, and imperialist wars. But only one candidate is at least willing to defend his own policies — the other is cagey.<

The democrats' self-serving hypocrisy and virtue signaling absolutely pisses Americans off. Which leads people to proudly embrace despicable policies for the sole reason that they own up to it. Although in the end republicans jump through hoops and hurdles to justify why things like caging children are actually good for society.
