I work a phone support line and want something I can play in the background of boring calls or in between calls while wasting as much company time as possible. It's gotta be simple enough to play while speaking on the phone with someone.
You can install Gameboy advance and DS on your phone, shit is tight
FTL and Into The Breach are also super fun, small games that any computer can run and you can ex it out at any point and your progress will be saved.
Always wanted to but never found the time to look up how to work around it with an iOS.
Sometimes miss my old android...
strategy games that are no-timer turn-based or have active pause real-time. Nearly all 4X-style games are one or the other, nearly all of them are absurdly effective at eating up empty time. best part: just pause and alt-tab when you need to answer the phone
The entire genre of idle games was invented for this purpose.
I frequently play Rimworld while watching TV if you like colony sims.
I play tetris in all my boring lectures, its very addictive. Also it was made by the good ol USS of R
I've had a decent experience playing old FPS games while going through my podcast backlog, although I don't know if you could get away with installing a game on a company PC. I guess theoretically you could stick a portable version of one on a flash drive.
For something browser-based, you could try Cookie Clicker or one of the various others in this "genre" if you can even call it that (apparently they're officially called "incremental games", which I just learned), like Universal Paperclips. The game will even keep playing itself while you're taking calls.
Zomboid lets you pause whenever and you can easily waste hours in it. There are two hearing related traits can pretty much remove the game's audio if you want.
Play.Pokemonshowdown
Free Pokémon battle simulator, let’s you play every generation ever and more. The Pokémon are generally tiered so you can’t use everything all the time but there’s some tiers where you can. Also let’s you play against real people in real time.
To expand on this you can also play Random battles. They come up with various viable movesets/abilities/items for each Pokemon and set the algos so it makes sense. No Charizard with Fire Blast/Flamethrower/Ember/Tackle movesets They also weight the pokes levels so quagsire and mewtwo can both be competitive. Fun stuff. You don't have to build a team, just click play and find a game in less then 30 seconds.
Kittens Game. It almost looks like work.
Idle games in general are good for work because they keep going even if you can't actively play them.
Solitaire, pinball, breakout. I play them while listening to podcasts, and they're both easy to multitask with and easy to play.
super auto pets is fun and you can put it down at any moment and pick up where you left off
