    It's that and the fact that a lot of modern metal sounds so hi-fi to the point of being artificial and lacking any sort of bite. I'm really unsure what compels audio engineers to make the most deflating mix imaginable for a genre where you'd think having a punchy sound is important.

      I think a lot of it is processed too much, and then brickwalled with little room to breathe, everything is produced to sound good coming out of a phone. It's pretty terrible when you get some albums with dynamic range of 4 compared to some albums that had 14-20. You can see it in the waveforms especially if you listen to most albums from the 80s going into the 90s, the loudness wars was the start, then everything being mixed to sound good from a phone made it far worse.

        I just really miss how in a lot of older albums you can hear the guitars scream when they hit the high notes. Snares and kicks generally sounded better as well.

          Mhm certain genres don't fuck with the production but a lot has which is unfortunate.
