in the mid 2000s i used yahoo answers a lot to answer shit because it fulfilled some weird need to be right about stuff but the best part is i wasn't right all that often but for some sections was a "top contributor" which came with a neat little badge next to your name, and so people would just pick my answer cause it created false trust in my answer. really funny to think about now

lmao i'd probably of done the same. it was that weird phase some people go through in high school where they think they are smarter than they really are and it was a source of easy validation. really kinda embarrassing to admit tbh but im glad i outgrew it

Of course they would shut down one of the web 1.0 archives of authentic human experience. Can't have that on the Internet anymore. Everything now needs to be getting you to like, comment, and subscribe to some hegemonic video of bright smiles, yellow arrows and soy face thumbnails.

I remember some show on comedy central showed a yahoo answer right before commercial break, it was like:

    • Q: "Why won't my parakeet eat my diarrhea?"
    • A: "Why are you trying to feed your parakeet diarrhea?"
    • OP: "That's not the question I asked."

    RIP yahoo answers

I was looking in to this and apparently the yahoo answers thing was an occasional bit on tosh.0

What's the deal with parakeets eating diarrhea and tosh.O?

Okay, I've seen "Why won't my parakeet eat my diarrhea?" asked three seperate times on here recently, and people say they've heard it on tosh.O or something. Can someone direct me to the "source" of this diarrhea-eating parakeet phenomenon? I want to learn more!

Damn. Yahoo answers was actually what helped to radicalize me. There were Native American users who answered any questions related to indigenous issues in the US and Canada.

It was rare to see people who recognized the US imperialistic attitude abroad and that both parties end up hurting the population they claim to protect.

Read some more and found my way from there to Abby Martin’s RT special, and then Abby Martin, before finally reaching left-Wing literature.
