So many things to unpack here I don’t even know where to get started.

The people who said that a vote for Macron in 2017 was a vote for Le Pen in 2022 are being proven right.

Feckless liberals cheered when their big wet boy became president of France and imagined him to be the guy to show a centrist path to defeating the extremes of the right and the left.

What happened was that he did nothing to address the issues making people angry and insecure. Instead he made it worse with harsh neoliberal reforms.

Meanwhile he also did nothing to fight racist and right-wing authoritarian ideology, to the contrary he appeased the far right by enacting highly racist legislation, either because he is racist himself or because he attempted to triangulate popular opinion. Either way instead of marginalising racism and reactionary views he ended up stoking them.

He's a former succdem by the way and adds to the pile of evidence that succdems are objectively some of the most horrible people in existence.

All the left wing organizing energy during Trump era had already dissipated

I think most folks are just burned out.

During the Trump era there was a sense in the mainstream that things were not okay. He was saying all the quiet parts out loud and people didn't like it. Today all the resistance libs have gone back to sleep.

If it's any comfort, the beautiful brunchers were never going to be allies when push came to shove. The spectacle of Trump was a black hole of political energy, and we can now focus on more important shit. It may seem like politics has died down, but I think we're all just preparing for the next catastrophe.

Also, it seems rather apparent there will be another "hot precinct summer", so I would be catching my breath before it ramps up again.

The actual left, yes. Radlibs and the like feel electing Biden actually was the cure to our problems, so everything is good now.

Activists are still fighting, energy is there, conditions are there, it’s just migrated from digital world into smaller scale, but real world

Amazing how everything but the last paragraph in what you wrote applies to Biden and also every major DNC politician.

The democrats are succdem adjacent. They might not fly red banners on May Day but they fill the same role of being the good cop of the bourgeois state, a lightning rod for public discontent, that prevents it from damaging the capitalist order.

The stupidest think about Macron isn't the grift-based attitude towards policy, or his Islamaphobia. It's his racism against the French.

I remember be once complimented the Danish government on its people's work ethic, calling his own 'Gaulic' people lazy moochers.
