There's a lot of awful shit in there but I just wanted to add a milder complaint
Translations are a very simple concept. You take a word and translate it DIRECTLY into another languages word.
This person literally doesn't know how languages work
yeah, unless it's a very technical text you're translating then you're almost definitely going to need to adapt some of it.
Not just that, any remotely artistic writing is going to have slang and idioms and shit that make no sense if transliterated, and words that simply don't exist in other languages. That's why you have localization, to find a way to present those concepts and emotions in a way that's intuitive to a different culture.
And like, sure there's something to be said for cool nuances or references getting lost in translation, but that's not at all what this chud is on about and more-strict translations are common anyway.
Haha yeah OK buddy:
TRANSLATION RELATED STATEMENT: VERY SIMPLE OF CONCEPT IS.
SPEAKING OF YOURSELF: WORD GETS TAKE, AND ANOTHER'S LANGUAGE'S WORD DIRECT TRANSLATION DOING (SHOULD HAPPEN).
Sending them back 300 years in time so they get punched in the head for using the word "nice".
"It's about ethics in anime localization" I say to myself as I burn a cross.
love pausing my anime every 7 seconds to read a blurb with an asterisk that explains the cultural relevance of something lost in translation bc the equivalent word doesn't carry it in english
They're still posting on twitter hours later, it somehow has gotten much worse.
The sad part is? This is pretty typical 4chan shit. There's a 100% chance this person posts on /pol/.
It's cool how the founder of 4chan was able to wash his hands of the site and get a job at google.
For whatever reason my brain thinks tim pool and moot are the same person
They're a dipshit who thinks "sus" was invented by :amogus: and are extremely assmad that they got called out on it
Because it's not about that. The whole thread was an excuse to go on an incredibly bigoted rant about trans people and black people
because they want to believe their world view actually exists and they arent just defending a fantasy?
Yeah. It first it's like, ok weeb mad at something. Just another dunk like any other time, then somehow goes into the rest.
That thread is a total wash. Just some absolute bottom of the barrel nobody chud whinging their 100% verifiably false opinions about things that barely matter in the first place, followed by disgusting racist/transphobe baiting and countered by the most insipid, lukewarm "dunks" I have ever seen. It's my fault for even clicking it, but come on
japanese companies do not give a fuck about your feelings on the subject. They dont care about your dumb soy eating , funko pop collecting employees who im sure are paid way too much.
just wanted to say that these types of people are the ones who actually buy merch related to the anime, so they're exactly who the Japanese companies care the most about. Weebs like me who never buy anything and mostly pirate the shows I watch are completely outside the radar of any animation company.
edit: holy shit then I got to the part where it gets really bad, god damn.
edit2: okay I read the whole thing and I really shouldn't have done that to myself, there's just nothing of value there at all.

Thats the domestic anime market too?
Soy has been a staple of Asian diets for hundreds of years, though I'm not sure about the market penetration of Funko Pops in Japan given that they have so many other companies doing higher quality plastic sculpts.
for the sake of example, a resin statuette is just a fancier funkopop
I actually went and did a bit of homework because I was curious about sales comparisons. So a normal funko pop is $10 but a normal price for one of those 1/8 scale resin/plastic models is about $90USD from the big names. Funko pops actually had their best year last year, pulling $227 Million in sales, no small feat until you take in labour, materials, transport, advertising, and (probably their biggest expense) IP licensing. That one company I used earlier was Kotobukiya, one of many companies that makes "official" (IP is bullshit) figurines and their revenue last year was $744 Million USD (¥8.02 Billion).
So like, they are probably just a fancier funko pop but the capital behind them is somewhere between just-under and multiple-times an order of magnitude more, all of which is specifically targeted at anime/related media products instead of funko pop's big tent for any individual item of each companies' products. And this is also before we get into consumption habbits of people who buy either product.
All this to say it is the unfortunate market inevitability that brought anime studios to shill to this type of guy. The kind of guy who would not only buy several $90 figures of some fictional 14y/o but would also attempt to peer-pressure others into his cucked headspace. I lost track of the argument, ngl, but anime titties ≠ funko pops.
i know this kid is 17 bc sus has been around at least since I was a kid and I wasn't a kid when this kid was born.
Yeah as someone that's being using the word "sus" for my entire life it's really weird to see people freak out about it
Before anyone, clicks on that, take the content warning very seriously. The OP on twitter has continued posting in their thread and it's gotten very, very, bad since the link was shared here. Going to give a short description in the spoiler tag, it's just so bad. Do not click on it, and if you do do not scroll past the first 10 comments or so. Trust me it's not worth it.
CW extreme racism and transphobia, much, much worse than you think
They posted a "George Floyd" montage saying that he deserved to die, as well a 4chan screenshots of failed medical procedures involving post op trans women. Utterly disgusting, no words to describe it really
I hate twitter, i keep trying to find the part where people dunk on this chud, but when i scroll down it's just infinitely more of their dipshit tweets
social media was a mistake
How do people even get like this? What happened to this person to make them this way?
It gets much worse than gamer word nonsense.

lol, good localization teams are a fucking treasure and this dude wants everything to sound like Zero Wing
Yeah don't scroll down, the thread gets really bad, I don't think you're near the actual end. Trust me it's better not to look at it.
My journey down this thread in five parts: :what-the-hell: :oh-shit: :cringe: :desolate: :agony-turbo:
Translations are a very simple concept. You take a word and translate it DIRECTLY into another languages word.
lmao what? Translations take a lot of work because you can't just translate directly into another languages word. You have to account for slang, for local dialects, figures of speech, sentence structures, context, and so many other things. If all translations were just direct word to word translations it'd all be done by machines, but it would be unreadable so we obviously don't do that.
Only skimmed the thread, but I think the subtext is that they think of "sus" as something only Black people say, and it's like the translators are defiling their ubermensch Japanese fantasy characters with colored vernacular :le-pol-face:

Imagine actually knowing what the hell you're talking about on the birdsite
Reminds me of when Ben Shapiro threw a shitfit over singular "they," a construct that is literally older than modern English
