Just been reading about this. My takeaway, and what the fuck do I know, was that any concerns (if they are even legit) about the Russian vaccine relate to the production process, not the work done by the institute that created the vaccine or the science behind it. The fact that the Russians are willing to license the vaccine freely, I think, to allow other countries to manufacture it, backs up this interpetation. Someone with seemingly credible credentials said this.
Yeah, there are still companies in Brazil that will be producing Sputnik locally. It's only the imported batches that are being called into question.
liberals love international organizations so you can defend against this by telling them Russia is part of the WHO and they signed off on it, make them accept the WHO's legitimatcy or go mask off on the evil russkies.

there are many, many posts about and from the global south. The megathread is often about events outside of the west and Latin America gets a lot of coverage. There were plenty of posts about the Indian farmer strikes when they began, and plenty of posts recently about covid in India. The first post on my feed rn is about how much living conditions have deteriorated under the Russian Federation compared to the Soviet Union

In my country the media generally ignores the existence of non-western vaccines and if they have to mention them they do it like they are risky sub-standard stuff for poor countries that cannot afford the high quality western stuff.
Meanwhile the authorities have scrapped the Astra-Zeneca vaccine completely due to fear of blood clots and usage of the J&J vaccine is on hold due to similar concerns. Supplies of Pfizer vaccines are scarce so the entire vaccination programme has been set back for months.
