reddit keeps logging me out on my desktop so i keep getting the regular, unfiltered r/all
today i was absent-mindedly perusing it while playing tpf2 on my second monitor and there was a big thread about how happy and optimistic they were about having a boring president that they don't have to think about

i made it through 3 or 4 unbelievably despair-inducing takes before realising i was in the liberal mind prison and promptly ctrl-w'd

I sometimes go back and forth with a smug centrist on a social networking site which I will not formally admit is FetLife.

Today they said that the fall of the USSR is an example of successful non-violent resistance.

Yes. Most of this site is good, but there are occasionally some very... smug cishet white boys that come in with shitty opinions. You don't need to have an opinion on everything, Brad, we get that you have thoughts. Let other people talk.

To Hexbear's credit, it is far less of an issue than it was at launch. Turns out purging transphobes and bigots also clears out a lot of the smug debate bros.

The mods have fought very hard to clean out the trash.

I think Twitter was the biggest culprit of this in the past year or two. We have a culture of yelling into the void now and people aren’t bothering to think before they post or say something so toxic that their credibility is completely shot.

When you can’t trust a word someone says because you can’t figure out where they’re coming from and how they’re framing the issue, then you don’t really know where to go to.

That’s the real issue. People think they have opinions, but they’re not facts. That’s what we have to deal with right now.

There’s one tweet that’s come up over and over again on this topic that has to do with Steve King and his support for white supremacy and white nationalism and neo-Nazis. There are a lot of people that are actually downplaying the impact and the magnitude of what he said. They say, “No, you can’t tell what someone is thinking just by looking at a Twitter account.”

Remembering that stretch of time between the Capitol riot and Biden's inauguration, so many people trying to outdo each other for the worst tweet of all time.
