Put it up there with the Simpsons and SpongeBob as a show that went on a decade longer than it should have. (2001-2017)
It actually did end after 5 seasons all the way back in 2006 believe it or not, and it was on a pretty high note too (At least compared with what was to come). But Nickelodeon made the fateful mistake of bringing it back in 2008 and letting it limp along for another 9 years.
After said revival, and as the years dragged on, the show added no less than 3 separate characters to the main cast in a desperate bid to keep the show fresh, which is almost never a good sign (One of whom added in the 2nd-to-last season, Sparky the fairy dog, was so hated that he didn't even come back the next season and his absence was never acknowledged, ouch lol).
It's sad cuz, like The Simpsons/SpongeBob, it actually could be a genuinely clever and funny show, but it was just stretched too far and for too long to maintain it's quality.
At least, unlike those shows, it actually was eventually allowed to die...after 16 years.
...And there's gonna be a live-action reboot series apparently...
Why? Who the hell is the target audience for this? I wish I could be a studio exec or some shit, it seems so easy. Have shit ideas, get paid massively
It's probably not even going to have Doug Dimmadome in it, the one character who should be live action. Seriously, the hat gag would be fucking funny in live action.
Apparently the same audience for that bizarre live-action Drake Bell epilogue TV movie trilogy with the cgi fairies.
Wasn't that like a decade ago? I feel like that audience would be way too old for this now. And Fairly Odd Parents has been over for several years too. If they're going for the nostalgia trip audience, then a live action reboot is possibly the worst way to do that lmao
Um, ackshually sweaty, the last one of those was only a bit under 7 years ago.
I guess they're just hoping people still want more of that slop lol.
It certainly beats coming up with new ideas! If I were a studio exec or whoever is in charge of coming up with this stuff, then I'd probably do the same too lol
Nostalgia works best if you take something away for 5 or so years, the some Nostalgic parents will take their dumb kids to see it, and since it was a product that parents also liked, they are more likely to buy the merchandise.
There's def some sort of Marketing theory BS here.
