Don't read Marx. It clearly explains reality and allows you to understand how you're being exploited. You'll also have much quicker realizations about why politicians do the things they do and why building community is actively discouraged. If you knew all that you might start to question the current status quo and that's bad tankie stuff

I'm starting to think their use of the term tankie is completely meaningless and it's actually just what they call people they don't like.

This is exactly it. The word has no meaning anymore beyond "those more socialist-y socialists".

I only really ever see it used in any remotely meaningful way that isn't attempting to be a though terminating insult when used towards people that have studied theory or those baby leftists that hang out online with us theory enjoyers.

Oh, and needless to really say but anarchists, by definition, can't be tankies.

I love the people who are very insistent that it's a well-defined political science term and not just an epithet that arose out of a single political disagreement ("during hungary") that they've adopted to mean any time someone opposes the united states.

the definition of the word tankie is like a rubber band that broke long ago from being overstretched, and has now become brittle from sitting in the sun. It used to be an infighting word in the Communist Party of Great Britain in the 1950s. CPGB members would accuse each other of being tankie if they towed the CPSU party line, particularly in regards to the USSR's actions against the (US-backed) Hungarian uprising.

Now it's just a term liberals use when you tell them to read Capital. Marx? A tankie? Tanks didn't even exist until after he died lol.

thonk hmmm... Tachanka is just a maxim gun mounted on a horse cart. Maxim gun came from 1884 and Marx died in 1883. So nope. Tachankas didn't exist until after Marx died either. Ergo no Tachankies.

Their bigger posts from their front page I noticed include someone whining that someone put out agitprop condemning the zionist entity's continued violations of human rights and the natural response to such, and hand waiving away all the atrocities the US committed in Korea as "well who invaded first." So, yeah, bot checks out.

Got called a Fascist Brownshirt by a Tankie

I was arguing with this Tankie on tiktok (waste of time I know) & we were talking about the 2024 election. I said that it doesn't make someone a "bad-leftist" if they don't vote 3rd party in 2024 & that it is perfectly reasonable for a leftist to vote democratic in 2024. He then preceded to say that I was "encouraging genocide" (despite my statement earlier that I DO support Palestine) & that the republican and democratic party are the exact same thing. He then called me a "Fascist blackshirt Marxist" and blocked me.

And thus I join this sub

You can tell this happened because the tankie called them a Marxist for voting as a democrat.

Just merge with the neoliberal sub already. This place is a joke.

(mod) Trust me, we’ve been trying for months to fix the liberal problem. We’ve managed to reduce the amount of liberal rhetoric being spread on here, but we haven’t managed to actually drive most of the liberals out (as shown by our monthly ideology poll).

What the fuck are they replacing liberals with?

Theoretically, anarchists and other "libertarian socialist" types. In practice, mostly liberals who like listening to pop-punk and looking at pictures of graffiti online.

I vote that hexbear do a weekly ideology poll. This is important data that definitely can't be falsified by simply choosing an option in the poll that doesn't align with your actual ideology simply to "fit in".

Nothing says "We absolutely know what we are talking about" quite like refusing to ever read anything that contradicts their position and nothing says "we aren't an echo chamber" quite like banning everyone who disagrees with them.
