In 2017 the traffic signs here in Finland got some new, more abstract designs because of a new coating that apparently caused problems when the old designs were looked at from certain angles, as well as to make them more clearly identifiable from further away. Our shittiest reactionary party is still complaining about how this is "wasting money to make the signs gender-neutral".
They talk about that shit so much. I even saw a big election ad this year saying "we care about the real problems, not about making the signs gender-neutral" (apparently completely unaware that they are the only ones still talking about that). They are currently the most popular party and are somewhat likely to lead the next government.
:agony-deep:
:frothingfash: They should also be smoking a cigar while eating a steak
Some of the people shapes have skirts, others have wide-ish shoulders. The only one with cock and balls is the "don't drive like a dick" sign.
Of course, their youth wing is also full of chan-grown white nationalists and many of the senior members belong to a totally not völkisch secret club
Having a welfare state doesn't mean you don't also have an army of ghouls trying to dismantle it piece by piece.
Many Finns were fed up with the consensus politics of the established parties, and many who had traditionally voted for the Social Democrats felt they'd been betrayed by them. PS seemed like outsiders and also a way to say fuck you to the political elite that been meanstesting their benefits and trying to raise the retirement age
A lot of people also just really fucking hate immigrants and want a return to the 80s when the only black people you saw were in American movies
This is a big thing in Sweden too, the SocDems have essentially been on a decades long campaign of slow betrayal since the USSR fell, the reactionary party outflanks them to the right, the center right parties already have most of the "moderate" voters and the only party on the SocDems left is the literally entirely useless Left Party that still get called Stalinists despite basically only saying "we eventually would like to have no private property".
The electoral program of Portugal's reactionary party contains a bit about "removing gender ideology and feminist perspectives from urban planning", and then goes on to argue that "cities are not sexist or oppressive" and I'm like :jesse-wtf:
