My name is nobody is a pretty underrated western. Kind of a slapstick comedy western, with a normal western story
Uncontroversially one of the greatest film composers of all time.
His theme for The Thing rules.
My local radio station has a program called Morricone Island where they go through movie scores, usually focused around a theme or a composer. They had a Morricone tribute show after he passed last year that was just his end credits themes .
La Classe Operaia Va in Paradiso (The Working Class Goes to Heaven)
Movie is great too if you can get your hands on it
I love how Leone used his music atmospherically. Man With a Harmonica in Once Upon a Time in the Old West has its motifs repeatedly play like Ecstasy of Gold in The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly. Then when it all came together as a full composition in the final duel, it made both films more emotionally powerful than any other action/western film I've watched.
That film plays excellently with atmosphere in general. The opening is a very long silent credit sequence where some bandits are just sitting at a train station waiting for the train and it is somehow great.
The one thing I don't like is the main female character's treatment...
