What, you don't think the 25 year old, 350k mile economy shitbox the kid will be able to afford will be reliable?

It's not like the price of used cars has also spiked massively over the last year or anything

Huge shout out to this kid of mine, 14 years old and has a PT job at NERV, not only does he work every day he can including weekends when most kids are out enjoying the love of their parents, he goes in early and stays late almost every time he pilots 01, he loves every minute of it. Making his own trauma, trying to earn praise, being held responsible for others' decisions, becoming an emotionally stunted young man!!! I couldn't be more proud of him! Some of y'all lazy, grown ass people out there should take notes!!! #prouddad

This shit is really disgusting. I remember when I was working at a pizza place with one of the most insanely misogynistic GM's I've ever had.

They did a recruitment drive at the local highschool and this Russian immigrant kid came in to apply. The GM asked him how much he wanted to make, and the kid said "I don't know, I guess $4/hr?" And the GM said we needed more kids like him then looked at all the women in the store (most of them single with children and being paid between $5-$10/hr) and said "you all need to stop being so caddy and be more like this kid! He's not greedy like you!"

I fucking quit about a week later and tried to hook up as many of those women with better jobs as possible.

Yes it is. 14-15 year olds are legally allowed to work with parental permission. Labor laws also cap the amount of hours they are allowed to work. Can't remember the amount but I would guess no more than 10-12 hours were allowed to be scheduled per week, and can't work later than like 9pm or something. Theres a decent amount of protections in place at least.

Most companies don't want to deal with the restrictions, but some places don't care. My first job was at a McDonald's at 16, and they had 14-15 year old workers. And this was over a decade ago, when they were less desperate.

Lots of crappy local strip mall suburban restaurants would try to hire kids this age as well and pay them a shit wage under the table so their labor could be exploited to the fullest.

my first job at 15 was this absolute dump in a suburban mall food court. $4.25/hr. the place should have been shut down by inspectors, but they always just have warnings. they also ripped me off of hours all the time and made me buy my uniform, which I knew was unfair but had no clue how to do anything about it and neither did anyone else, except they would say quit and go somewhere else. but it seemed like everyone my age with a job hated their job.

I worked after school for 3-4 hours on weekdays with full shifts on weekends. I was so excited to have my own money. I saved up for an N64 and Mario64 and was so psyched when I finally got it, only to realize that I never had much free time to play games anymore.

no one should have to work during the school year, especially as a kid. and summers should be for other enrichment and maybe some kind of field placement in college to see if you like what you're learning in a labor context, like shadowing a nurse or an archivist or curator or a veterinarian.

the only "positive" is going to be the trauma of this kid learning how america treats food service workers, right to their face. it was a wake up call for me just how cruel, stupid and unreasonable people could be.

Dear fucking God just a culture of pure bootlickery, people who think socialism is in anyway going to come to america “peacefully” are beyond delusional, as evidenced by the complete failure of even the mildest social democratic reforms in that godforsaken land.
