I just assumed they had Bannon on because he was the most famous person who'd ever agreed to go on their pod and they're shameless clout sharks.

He was way less intelligent than I had assumed he was.

American confuse success (or wealth) for intelligence. It's always made me insane. And now because wealth inequality is so crazy - many people will stop listening if you try to give them a simple example that shows them that billionaires are not sages.

It's clear that Elon Musk uses his "We'll live on Mars" shtick as PR but I think he actually believes it too. Musk is 49. For the sake of convenience - let's say Musk lives another 39 years and dies in 2060. If I tell a redditor that we won't be terraforming on Mars in Musk's lifetime - they get testy. They use an "appeal to wealth" fallacy that Wikipedia insists on calling "argumentum ad crumenam". I can't dance to that beat.

The redditors tell me Musk is a billionaire and because I'm not - I'm wrong. I say - maybe we will have a few hundred people on Mars by 2060. Or maybe I'm wrong by a factor of 10 and it'll be a few thousand. Whatever the number - it will be extraordinarily risky and experimental. A "minor" accident or problem could become serious and overnight the majority of them could die within an Earth day. But it's not as if it's going to be 10s of millions or even millions of people living there in an ordinary earth reality with McDonald's and shit. They're going to be astronauts who have to work 24/7 keeping the place going and do stuff like recycle their own poop and eat it.

The redditors always refuse to give me their guess. Musk (or Bezos, etc) is their prophet and they don't need reason, facts, or logic.

I have never listened to an episode of red scare I've always just assumed it's an hour of them acting like that "that's praxis" video.

The subreddit is possibly even worse than stupidpol. Pure reactionary garbage.

tbh stupidpol is still racing towards CringeAnarchy 2.0. Easily the shittiest left adjacent subreddit.

I think that the period from about 2016 to 2020 will be regarded as when scores of podcasts, streams, YouTube channels or what have you that were defined by being against the status quo, vaguely left-wing and/or vocal supporters of Bernie Sanders when he ran for President came about.

A fair amount of these programs will be looked back on as being more right-wing than people initially thought or the people behind them will make a move to the right.

For some insanely bizarre reason I used to think Sam Seder was a leftist. I think because there were two genuine leftists on the show (well, as hosts, I think Matt is probably leftist).

He is smart about policy and political history but he is too succdem for me to ever watch him anymore without :michael-laugh:

RIP to a real one, seriously, it almost impossible for me to care about the show without him. Jamie is pretty cool but like she hardly gets to talk much. Also I CANNOT stand Noami even more than sam

Jamie left MR to focus on antifada, no reason to tune into it anymore.

I have tried to get into Anitifada because I enjoyed Jamie on MR, but let's just say I haven't had much success. They are so arrogant and constantly on about some left communist shit that was barely relevant when it was new.

I know same. He legit was my best daily source of following socialism and left movmenrts globally I'd probably not have heard about. He was just a rational and chill dude who was valuable.

BTW his 1 year anniversary is coming up, July 20th. I can hardly believe it. I normally don't care so much about youtubers/content creators but I just watched his show so much and really respected him it feels different

          I think Jamie left.

He is knowledgeable about policy. I think he reads a lot, he knows a lot of facts, but aligns himself very conservatively with a specific brand of progressive liberalism. He is also pretty good at debate, and I have no reason to deny that.

Mueller She Wrote is a very cringeworthy example of this.

I have heard of that program, but never listened to it.

If I had to guess, it is more of a liberal resistance show.

What I was more referring to was programs that had the pretense of being "anti-establishment".

Oh, I see. Yeah, the podcast I'm referring to was def #resistance, not trying to present as anti-establishment.

The thing that confused me for a long time, as a babby to political understanding, is that while a lot of these people are to the left of the American mainstream on some issues that does not make for a real Left ideology. Canada and Britain and France are to the left of America on some stuff, but none of them are good countries. Similarly, thinking the government should pay for college and healthcare does not a leftist make.

I'm embarrassed that I used to be a fan. I live in a big city and my gf used to work in galleries so their general vibe was relatable to me. I think they're generally just totally craven and internet poisoned. They saw a lane of being "hip" girls who are anti-woke and are building an audience of pathetic reactionary men. It's really gross and depressing.

I've only listened to a couple of episodes, I feel like they sometimes make salient points about how leftist tactics can wind up being ineffective, but you have to sift through a lot of reactionary bullshit to get to it. It seems like they're afraid of being too genuine so they hide behind this ironic contrarian slur-filled facade which feels forced

I just don't like Dasha and Anna as just people. Not into their humor and not into anything they've done I've listened to. I can see why some people like it but a lot of it just felt vapid without the entrainment value other pretty meaningless pods can have to make up for their lack of engaging content

They support Bernie. That's the beginning and end of their credentials.
