    you know what's really fucked up about slavery in Texas? it was illegal in the Mexican Empire, and so Texas is the only place in the entire of continental north America to have gone from outlawed slavery, to legalising it, after they had broken away from Mexico

      Yeah it’s literally why the white settlers fought to steal Texas land from Mexico. Mexico was unbelievably tolerant of their bullshit basically just let them skirt all kinds of laws and shit, the one thing they asked of them was to not have slaves and they lost their shit

      It’s crazy bc I lived like 2 decades and then some in Texas and never talked about that stuff. As children we watched a video at the monument about Texas’s “war for independence” against Mexico and the main thing I remembered from it was how much the video dunked on Santa Anna for wearing silky women’s underwear. Lol dumb, dumb shit
