I don't know about that book, but Colbert was genuinly funny back then. Not your fault he turned into a cringy lib.

I was wondering that as I typed my comment. His fake conservative act would still be accurate and funny today right? Just because it’s not explicitly leftist doesn’t mean he had some correct takes. But yeh he’s omega cringe now, let us not forget the “Putin’s cock holster” shit

I bet his stuff holds up better than the daily show from back then. I do think the daily show back then was funny as well, but it was more explicitly lib, while the Colbert report, as a parody of conservatism, seems like it would be more relevant to you even after you moved on to Lefitsm.

If I remember correctly, someone did try to do the fake conservative thing following Trevor Noah I think around 2016 and it was just horrible.

Yep I remember learning about it from some bread tube video and that was basically the point they made but I cannot remember for the life of me what the horrible show was. Like it was the same schtick but I think it was just a massive failure so all my knowledge of it is buried in some memory of this bread tube video and this bothers me.

Le sigh, my political education started with The Daily Show, The News Hour and eventually Colbert. My parents are radlibs and we connected on watching our country shit the bed after 9/11. Me n my bro would stay up with mom n dad to watch Stewart/Colbert and laugh at the horror. We got America the book and I Am America for various birthdays and it was nice feeling that there were ‘adults’ pointing out and ridiculing all this fucked up shit. Now when I visit the ‘rents they watch the newest John Oliver with me, and I sigh internally.

Similar background, realized that their (barely rad)lib takes all kind of sum up to "the right people just need to be in office"

Makes sense when both Stewart and Colbert lost their fire when Obama entered the white house, they thought they weren't needed.

Oliver too, except be starts to scrape the edge of systemic injustice with that beak of his

America the Book was better, it was just like my social studies books from grade school. This isn’t even as bad as the Pawnee, Parks and Rec, book though

Yeah. Somewhat regrettably, I still have it. It was my trash back in 10th grade. I also had a bunch of chud friends who loved it, because they didn't understand irony.

Haha, cringe. I didn’t have it but there was a certain era of my life where I definitely would have read and enjoyed it.

I love it! It's such a powerful tribute to America and what it means to be an American. :flag: Malaysia:

Is this one with the really horrible vignettes at the start of each chapter and one of them is a horribly insensitive portrayal of a guy addicted to vicodin? And another guy stealing his kids birthday money to gamble on stocks?
