Cynicism about corporations and lib pseudo-feminism with queer language appropriations

inb4 it gets turned into "AFAB only"

The whole AFAB only shit makes me almost glad we have the "FLINTA is alienating to transmasculine people" discourse in my country instead.

You see, the most common way of saying "women +" in German progressive circles is FLINTA, which stands for women, lesbians, inter, nonbinary, trans and agender. They really try to cover everyone who isn't a cis dude and that works really well as long as you need a catchall term including everybody marginalized around gender issues. It's like an easier way of saying "not an endo cis dude". But then you have people trying to apply the label to spaces they want to mark as "women only" and suddenly you have the problem of labeling a bunch of people who really do not want that as "women light". The FLINTA label fits fine if you want to say "cis and trans women, he/him lesbians and non-binary, inter and agender people that do not fall on the transmasc side", and that's usually the way it's meant as, "women and woman-ish gender identities". But it automatically also means inviting trans men and masculine presenting inter, non-binary and agender people into spaces where they are either forced to out themselves and explain themselves at every opportunity or where you're basically rubbing it into their faces if they do not pass and everybody just reads them as butch women.

Still better than "AFAB only housing" tho.

Women and nonbinary people who can afford ubers pay for safety from men using the same feature that makes it easier for men to harass women and nonbinary people who have to drive uber.

I love these man-made horrors within my comprehension

Woman+ is basically how a lot of lib "allies" will view NBs, (if they acknowledge them at all). There's this undercurrent of "if not man then woman" thought that lends to this sort transfeminine by default approach by people who don't care to educate themselves otherwise.

I'm assuming this would ideally be used by women who want woman Lyft drivers because there always is a concern that comes with male drivers. It doesn't look like it filters out male users and that probably opens it up for easy exploitation by men.

yeah why would the app have the passengers' gender listed? drivers can (and do) make assumptions about the names but letting either party filter for it is just a harassment tool

It's a pretty lazy way to address a real issue without fixing anything. Can't say I expected much more from a tech company.

well they can't address the issue, it's literally contradictory to the business model. you want a safe, regulated environment for rider & driver? its called a fucking taxi

Fuck that was literally a side plot on the sad horse show, that they founded an alternative to Uber with only female drivers after one of the characters complains about being harassed by a male driver. Then men start using the app to creep on the drivers, they replace all the drivers with strippers, and they sell the company for a huge profit and a feeling of guilt at having completely and utterly failed at what they set out to do in the first place.

I am sympathetic as I remember that case where a male taxi driver was picking up, assulting, and murdering young women

obviously this company is going to fuck up its implementation
