Thank you Bezos Daily for making sure we know that this is 1) Not the US Oil Industry's fault and 2) State-owned industry is at fault. Can't wait for Biden to announce this is an unacceptable environmental crisis caused by state negligence so he's going to send green climate ambassadors down there to sort it out. Then the subsequent WaPo article in 10 years about how Mexico's newly private oil industry is going green.
Edit: well, fuck a pot-noodle. https://twitter.com/davidsirota/status/1411096534989651974
There is oxygen floating around in water. That's how fish breathe. Low oxygen levels in water from human activity and pollution actually kill fish in some areas, or destroy coral reefs. I assume that if it's hot enough and there's enough oil, the ocean can combust
not a scientist but i think i read it's cause oil repels/doesn't mix with water
it's why when u pour water on burning oil it goes FWOOOOSH
it’s why when u pour water on burning oil it goes FWOOOOSH
That's from different boiling points: burning oil is much, much hotter than the boiling point of water so when you throw water into burning oil (technically it's when you use too little water, because if you have enough water you can still reduce the temperature enough to extinguish the fire, but it's on a scale of like a bathtub full of water to extinguish a liter or two of oil safely) what happens is the water flashes to steam and basically aerosolizes the oil by spraying it everywhere, leading to the scattered oil all igniting at once and making a huge fireball.
