Mark my words, democrats are going to work with republicans to make cops a protected class and insulting them will be a hate crime.

How are people not out there putting this on blast. This is so wildly dangerous and sets a precedent for putting anyone who insults the cops in prison.

The mechanisms for arresting anyone who insults cops already exist and already get used that way all the time. They can get you on suspicion and resisting arrest, neither of which require you to have actually done anything wrong.

Also worth noting is that there are already special, aggravated charges for crimes that involve cops, and they're enforced far more strictly. Shove someone once at a bar and you might technically be guilty of some minor assault charge, but odds are good you won't get any charges out of that, or you can plead down to something even smaller. But shove a cop once? Even if it's while they're roughing you up? You'll get the book thrown at you.

In July 2020, The National Police Association petitioned for the mural’s removal.

“If it is not possible to imagine putting a 17′ tall mural of nurse killer Richard Speck in front of a hospital or putting a 17′ tall mural of Dan White, who assassinated San Francisco Mayor George Moscone and Supervisor Harvey Milk, in front of a mayor’s house, the atrocity of the celebration of a fugitive convicted cop killer in front of Palo Alto’s City Hall is equally reprehensible,” the petition read.

It's possible to imagine a 90' by 190' carving of defenders of slavery in a predominantly black city, though, so . . .

I wonder how much of this is real libbrained butt hurt and how much is just a cynical ploy by fascists to use lib idpol. I guess it kind of doesn't matter.

Try writing "can't corner the Dorner" in runes with pig blood in the pavement.

I've always wondered why conservatives love pointing out why they are the real victims, even when that's obviously not true but any metric. Is it because having a sense of shared victimhood creates community?

It also positions them and any actions they take as morally righteous because they’ve been wronged and it’s “justice” to right that wrong
