I'll start : They fucking killed Thomas Sankara :france-cool:

I share the blame as I am French myself, that's why I don't forget today is not only a mindless military parade in paris but also the birthday of the people's revolt that took the Bastille, one of the King's fortresses in Paris, making way for one of the first revolutions in modern history. The Bourgeois and reactionaries may have betrayed the revolution but it still remains an example to follow and was a the stepping stone for the broader "left" political movement to develop in Europe ( the term itself was created during the revolution).

Let us remember the Peasants in the streets of Paris who had enough and went against their all powerful god-king who's family had reigned for centuries, and won !

May we have their strength , May we know their bliss

The tragic end of the Paris Commune always makes me sad and angry. This isn't Dragon Ball Z or Batman; don't leave your enemies to fight another day, goddammit.

Wasn't John Ball hanged, drawn, and quartered? That's what happens when concessions are made.

"We have no compassion and we ask no compassion from you. When our turn comes, we shall not make excuses for the terror. But the royal terrorists, the terrorists by the grace of God and the law, are in practice brutal, disdainful, and mean, in theory cowardly, secretive, and deceitful, and in both respects disreputable

This is why for any excesses, and any genuinely unjust trials and executions thousands of which did occur, the Reign of Terror and the actions of the Jacobins are justified by history before and since.

In fairness, I believe the people storming the Bastille also hated France

Also they pillaged and enslaved most of West and Central Africa for four hundred years and counting and should never be forgiven for their crimes.

the problem was he turned on the left and the right, and so they united against him. if he had just focused on the moderates and the closet monarchists France would have been at least 15% more woke :cri:

Truth is, among the revolutionaries Robbey was a moderate himself.

Just a warning: mods in this comm have been very strict about posts being news, so this might get taken down.

As for the actual topic of the thread, a couple items spring to mind:

    • HAITI (already said but deserves emphasis :louverture-shining: )

    • Participating in the pillaging and humiliation of China

France weirdly seems to represent both the best and worst of humanity. The bourgeoisie and colonialism and racism and so on, but also revolution and unionization and some hella strong contributions to philosophy.

The French are the same as the English without the self-loathing
