I wonder if communism ever took backwater countries to competing directly with the worlds biggest super power

      Probably modest ones

The new narrative is that the much bigger ones in support of the revolution are staged by the government

Any picture of happy people in Harlem or Appalachia is because there's a CIA agent out of sight who will run over the first person to stop smiling.

Meanwhile, when the supreme leader of US America goes to visit a town, a factory or other places where ordinary working class people go, everyone he goes near has been thoroughly vetted beforehand by the secret police in order to make sure nobody will disturb the carefully choreographed event.

Amazing how quickly a government can put together a large vocal counterprotest in a country where everyone hates the government.

His next line was "And I don't see socialism as a very useful substitute." As in, milquetoast social democracy is still too far left.

    Hey :biden-nibble:

Since you think it's a failed system, you don't have to oppose DPRK, Cuba, Venezuela, China etc right?

This line doesn't really work because they will disingenuously approach this from an angle of being saviours. The logic is because they think it's a failed system it leads to suffering amongst the populace. So then they get to come in on their high horse and excise this failed system and alleviate suffering as a result.
