I don't really know how gamers came to the conclusion that cheating is only something chinese gamers do.

They always go on about how x wouldn't survive a cod lobby but they legit wouldn't have survived the hack plagued cod mw2 lobbies of old. Or black ops 2. Games were legit unplayable and i don't think it was chinese gamers doing that.

People at school used to pay people for hacks on their account or max prestige it was just a normal day and every fucking person wanted to cheat to show their friends how "good" they are.

I remember when battlefield 3 came out and it was common to have someone basically delete everyone in the server on loop.

      Shit like this:

      https://www.reddit.com/r/pcgaming/s/INxKHP1nBP

Literally read up on the differences in gaming culture before you just call random people racist.

People are literally citing a 5 year old post by an account literally made to make that post as evidence for their views.

It's psyop shit. I'm becoming increasingly suspicious that gamers were deliberately led to this through agitative psyops.

I vaguely remember it started getting talked about a lot when pubg came out seemingly out of nowhere. Suddenly it was a major part of discourse. Feels very psyopy.

I think it was DayZ where it properly began. Prior to that I have little memory of it ever being raised.

PUBG was very popular worldwide and eventually acquired and marketed by a Chinese company. It also ran like dogshit and the devs didn’t really care so the complaints were more warranted

It’s not psyops lmao. It’s just the natural conclusion of racism. You don’t need the CIA to do anything when you already believe that Chinese people are the reason your parents are divorced

It was around 2013 or so, I think.

Reddit had a deluge of people posting screeds about how “pay to win” was baked into Chinese culture as being acceptable. They’d lump it in with the anti micro transactions rage that hadn’t died yet at the time.

I think you might be onto something.

Puts it right before and around the time of gamergate. Really quite possible this was pushed by same groups that created that for far right purposes.

You think Bannon was involved? He made money off WoW gold farming and was involved in a white paper that used it as a case study.

In gamergate? Yes. There's several things that link him, the start of it wasn't manufactured but they jumped on the opportunity and it kick started the alt-right. In the chinese stuff? Maybe. Timing is similar enough for it to be something they might've tried.

I've been involved in enough huge major internet dramas now to realise just how few people can drive them.

That’s wild. There’s almost certainly a niche for somebody doing a TrueAnon but for gamergate and putting the cork board together.

...but they legit wouldn’t have survived the hack plagued cod mw2 lobbies of old.

The one time I was in a MW2 lobby that was hacked/glitched that gave everyone on my team what was basically god mode, one of my teammates made a remark about how they wished they were high for the game. I was cringe enough at the time to have actually believed DARE's shit and brought up DARE in saying weed was dangerous. I was shocked when my teammates mocked DARE.

Fast forward about a decade and now I smoke the reefer (admittly too) frequently.

I don't really know how gamers came to the conclusion that cheating is only something chinese gamers do.

they remember it when they die in some obvious bullshit way and see a chinese name but not when an anglo one does it, even though they probably run into more anglo cheaters because they run into more anglo players period.

the next level of problem is that the high ping bastards who cheat aren't as vulnerable to counterplay as the local cheaters are so it's "worse" even if it's the same cheats.

One time I was playing Gmod darkrp and some wehraboo came in with a Day of Defeat wermacht playermodel, spawned an mg42, and just camped the server spawn with an aimbot. And you know what? Sprintjumping from cover to cover, sneaking up the stars, timing my steps with the gunfire so he wouldn't hear me, and finally bursting onto the roof and murking his lazy ass with a donated pistol was one of the most satisfying experiences I've ever had in any online game.

      These losers should adapt

I don't really know how gamers came to the conclusion that cheating is only something chinese gamers do.

It is the flavor of the week. Every game community seems to have particular hate for a specific ethnic/nationality. LoL hated Brazilian players. CS GO had a thing about Russians. This is just the latest version of American being chauvinists pieces of shit. Occassionally a tik tok streamer pops up in my feed where he is using autoaim and see-through hacks, in COD MW and it's so funny for being both blatant, and the way the comments actively engage with the idiot by calling him names.

Theres a thin line between chinese people cheat (generalisation of a race) and most cheaters in this game are people who live in china (fact). While to some people those 2 sentences are exactly the same which is the problem. Personally i say let the discussions happen and let the people who make it about race expose themselves and get banned and if a comment section gets too racist just lock it imo

Isn't this shit pretty much the same argument racists make about black crime statistics?

eh, crime has material causes and i don't think it's necessarily the best idea to put that on here. It's not like cheaters are cheating because they only have dial up and 20 frames per second due to generational poverty and racist government.

An innovative poster appears to be trying to use reddit's porn addiction and orientalism against the racism: https://www.reddit.com/r/thefinals/comments/18fyuc7/when_you_are_up_against_the_chinese_players/

What will win? Reddit's porn addiction and love of being stepped on or reddit's racism?

I think a lot of it has to do with orientalism and unfamiliarity. It's an easy thing to blame on a large mass of people you cannot and will not be communicating with. Cheaters exist in every area. America, Russia, Brazil, china, literally anywhere. However I think China being more "foreign" to people than other countries supercharges this more for the normal fashy gamer.

    gamer-gulag

That said I'm enjoying the fuck outta the finals lol. I play at a very fucked up time in the states so I play with a lot of Chinese players and I still haven't seen a single cheater lol.

I assume what this particular user is trying to get at here is that they mean the white, black and other residents of china are all included in the "chinese" that they're complaining about. Not just the han. And they think this is itself not a problem.

Maybe the developers who are banning people on the discord for it are right about using the word "xenophobia" instead of "racism" to be more precise about it in this case in terms of it is a phobia reaction referring to chinese-language speakers from this geographic location.

It's close enough to racism for me but I get it now.
