My favorite old video game thing was old mirrors. In Duke Nukem 3D, mirrors were really just invisible walls between two rooms, one is the room the player can enter, and one is a room that looks exactly like that one flipped, that would then spawn a sprite of Duke that moves with the player's input whenever the player walks into the room.
Also, this is how real mirrors work and this is not up for debate.
Reminds me of a setup in VtM:B where it looks like a fake mirror like that, except it's actually a window between two rooms and the NPCs idling in it are just mirrored between the two rooms to start with.

I remember one of the first times feeling really convinced by a mirror in game was the first release of the game Prey
The beginning scene when the alien abducts you from a bar you could see yourself in the bathroom mirror.
