Karl Paul August Friedrich Liebknecht, born on this day in 1871, was a German socialist politician and theorist. Originally associated with the Social Democratic Party of Germany (SPD), Liebknecht later became a co-founder with Rosa Luxemburg of both the Spartacus League and the Communist Party of Germany (KPD). Liebknecht is also known for his outspoken opposition to World War I.
The son of Wilhelm Liebknecht, one of the founders of the SPD, Karl Liebknecht trained to be a lawyer and defended many Social Democrats in political trials. He was also a leading figure in the socialist youth movement and thus became a leading figure in the struggle against militarism.
As a deputy in the Reichstag he was one of the first SPD representatives to break party discipline and vote against war credits in December 1914. He became a figurehead for the struggle against the war. His opposition was so successful that his parliamentary immunity was removed and he was improsoned.
Freed by the November revolution he immediately threw himself into the struggle and became with Rosa Luxemburg one of the founders of the new Communist Party (KPD)
In January 1919, the Spartacus League played a leading role in the Spartacist Uprising, a general strike and armed rebellion in Berlin. The uprising was crushed by the SPD government and the Freikorps (paramilitary units composed of World War I veterans). For their role in the uprising, Liebknecht and Luxemburg were both kidnapped, tortured, and murdered on January 15th, 1919.
Their contributions to European socialism are commemorated annually in Germany during the second weekend of January, an event known as the Liebknecht-Luxemburg Demonstration, or "LL-Demo" for short.

They noticed that 7/12 = 1/3 – ¼. So they cut 4 sheets into 12 thirds, and 3 sheets into 12 fourths. Each worker got one third and one fourth, or 7/12.
For the other distributions they used:
5/6 = ½ + 1/3; 13/12 = 1/3 + ¾; 13/36 = ¼ + 1/9; 26/21 = 2/3 +4/7, and so on.
Arithmetical Nuts to Crack
(A) Use two digits to make the smallest possible positive integer.
(B) Five 3s can express 37:
37 = 33 + 3 + 3/3
Find another way to do it.
(C) Use six identical digits to make 100. (Several solutions are possible.)
(D) Use five 4s to make 55.

Call it cringe, but I’ve wanted to play an open world post apocalypse game centered on a Marxist militia. There would be creepy dominionist fash gangs that would be fun to merc, but the main antagonist would be a neoliberal government. So basically a fallout new Vegas with better politics. Obviously I can’t make a game so I said fuck it and started writing it as a novel a few weeks ago, now I’m at like 13000 words. The superstructure does not let such stories become mainstream, but man it’s a pretty fun hobby because you have so much creative freedom with writing. Way smaller barrier to entry: don’t need supplies, equipment (besides a phone). Any one else into creative writing? Any tips?
When ever I DM the end point of the campaign is always falgsc. It just doesn't make sense to have a happy ending status quo. "The brave heros save the day and their decidents live happily ever after till a draven kingdom makes a highway that avoids their idillic village and it falls into cycles of poverty and despair. The end"
Maybe it is just cause my blood is red with the immlortal science but it always feels half done otherwise. Like this is the one thing JRR got right. "You won the war but your economy is wrecked get fucked."
Indeed. I find that to be a hard problem to balance. On one hand, stories don't need to keep following the same triumphant resolutions. But on the other hand, since I'm writing about communism, I don't want it to have a bad ending, since I feel like that would come off as 'communism bad.'
Yeah, having solved the riddle of history it is less diverting to speculate on the branching paths of history. Since the pattern is a known quantity.
I would love to read it if you eventually finish it comrade :rosa-salute:
Thank you comrade! You'll be the first person I hit up in 2080 when this thing is finally done. 🖤
This was literally my idea for a Fallout game lol.
It'd be focused around the dissolution of the Legion into competing "true Legion" factions and your resistance to them.
The idea being it's kinda like New Vegas where you have to do a bunch of setup missions for supporting factions to help in the war, but this places emphasis on consolidating power after the victory.
I liked the idea of having three major settlements of "choose your favour" ideology of Communist, Liberal and Fascists, and how they acted under the previous Legion occupation.
Would be a needed expansion to Legion lore and a good showcase of the "at least the roads are safer" liberals what that actually means for the people.
Right. I have a feeling there are many great stories out there that have been written from the communist perspective of a post-apocolyptic war or something. But these ideas are structurally prohibited from becoming mainstream as capital would never let such ideas reach the masses. So a game like what you described sounds fucking awesome, but the necessary capital it would require in the west to create such a game could not be accumulated since investors/gaming companies would not let those themes fly. In fact, I remember when I played New Vegas, it felt like there was a missing faction. Like, really? With how bat-shit evil and insane Legion was, Legion's counter-balance is fucking NCR? Luke warm ass, liberal ass, limp dick NCR?
I think that's important to have the NCR as a foil though. Because you need to show that both of those systems are ones that failed.
In my game I'd canonise that NCR won but major reforms came into play after the war (similar to post-WWII UK but more substantial, and that's why you have to pick up the slack because the NCR takes more of a non-interventionist role.
