Article is paywalled but the opening paragraph is good enough, the auction for the leases begins at at the end of the year

The Trump administration plans to approve an oil leasing program for the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge Monday, opening up the pristine 19-million-acre wilderness to drilling for the first time and making it difficult to unwind the decision should Democrats recapture the White House in November.

    The Guardian article mentions:

It is unclear if oil companies will be interested in drilling in the area any time soon, because oil is cheap and abundant elsewhere.

Five of the largest US banks have said they will not finance ANWR projects.

Yeah but what if they want it later. You don't know how hard it is to have far more wealth and power than you could possibly need in the here and now. Really you have no choice but to also foreclose on the possible of anything ever being good for anyone else in the future.

I love how the article says that it's difficult for the democrats to reverse the decision even though it's not going to lead to anybody drilling. Democrats are literally too cowardly to tell a bunch of people that aren't drilling somewhere that they cannot drill somewhere anymore.
