I’m being a bit snarky. The foods good (especially Mexican) and I like a lot of music from there. I just don’t think I could ever stand living there, between the sprawl, the heat, and the snootyness of some of the citizen.
Also feel like everything good about LA you can find in other less insanely expensive cities. I’d argue Texas has the better Mexican food too.

At least part of my joke here is that Philly is one of the few pieces of land in the US that isn’t actually stolen. The Lenape still recognize the deal they struck with William Penn. I think it’s just there and some land in Tennessee the Creek recognize as having been legitimately traded for. So yeah Philly and Tennessee are the only places Mayos should be allowed to live.

The vast majority of that cost is the location. The house itself could be had for 600-750k elsewhere. Or like 400k in Ohio. Very nice, obviously, but not the monument to opulence people are making it out to be.
Oh completely, this whole struggle session is absurd. I don't enjoy seeing that somebody bought a pricey, nice house in a soon-to-be-climate-ravaged part of the world, but I understand that a career media personality is going to move to the place where all the media people and all the media jobs are, and they're going to pay a huge premium to do so, because that's the unfortunate state of things.
