You ever be such an asshole your professor resigns in the middle of class.

To be fair teaching a topic you enjoy is the sort of job I could see someone actually wanting to do later in life, unlike many of the shit jobs the elderly are forced into.

It’s pretty common in academia, but not out of necessity. When you’ve dedicated your entire life to teaching and researching a topic you care about and genuinely enjoy going to work every day, it makes sense to not want to give it up.

My partner has been watching this show called The Chair and they've had a few funny scenes about this fact.

And if he dont have someone that can replace him , he has not been a good teacher ...otherwise he would have a replacement ready ... And its not like retired Profs. are not involved in Discussions ,Alumini or all kinds of other programms that they have on a univeristy ...

And the money thing ... hes a Professor ...

Disagree, age shouldn't block you off from a passion. If someone enjoys their subject matter and enjoys teaching and genuinely wants to do it, then you should let them continue. The problem only comes when they are socially pressured or monetarily forced into it against their will.

Old people are still PEOPLE, they should be allowed to do what they want as well.

We had a professor who retired, then he started doing extra seminars etc because he liked teaching, so he could still be teaching but also without having to take up the spots of new professors.

88-year-old professors are pretty much all Emeritus (ie, retired but still associated with the University with an office and research priviliages) Professors since most unis have you step down from full Prof at 65-70 Years old.

He's already made way, he's just teaching a lecture.

EDIT: yeah, his title is Distinguished Research Professor Emeritus. And he's one of the world experts on the reproductive psychology of non-human primates, which seems like a "Get this guy in to take the class, his students are all Jane Godalling it in the Congo."

Especially weird given that he was probably giving small lectures to students actually majoring in the subject, most juniors and seniors have some respect/admiration for their professors by that point
