You ever be such an asshole your professor resigns in the middle of class.
Appealing to their time serving the empire militarily is not making me feel super empathetic, tho.
Also don't quit just make yourself ungovernable. Kick the asshole out, call campus security, do a walk out. Resigning is just giving a gift to the admins that probably created this situation in the first place.
He's 88 so there could be a personal risk factor there. If I was still teaching at 88 I'm not sure if I'd be using my age to dig in or seeing how long Incan ride a body out at that point and wouldn't want to fuck it up by getting covid
Of course. He doesn't need to actually risk anything. He could walk out and demand safe conditions, for example.
is it normal for a 88 year old to still be working anyway... ?
what a cursed work ethic...
To be fair teaching a topic you enjoy is the sort of job I could see someone actually wanting to do later in life, unlike many of the shit jobs the elderly are forced into.
It’s pretty common in academia, but not out of necessity. When you’ve dedicated your entire life to teaching and researching a topic you care about and genuinely enjoy going to work every day, it makes sense to not want to give it up.
It’s pretty common in academia
My partner has been watching this show called The Chair and they've had a few funny scenes about this fact.
No, its not, which means our boi either LOVED what he did or NEEDED the money. One is totally cool, the other is horrific.
One is totally cool,
no its actualy not that a "indivvidualism" brain reflex !
, he needs to make fucking room for the next generation , even if he loved it. ...
And if he dont have someone that can replace him , he has not been a good teacher ...otherwise he would have a replacement ready ... And its not like retired Profs. are not involved in Discussions ,Alumini or all kinds of other programms that they have on a univeristy ...
And the money thing ... hes a Professor ...
"Everything has a End , only the Sausage has two... "
, he needs to make fucking room for the next generation , even if he loved it. …
Disagree, age shouldn't block you off from a passion. If someone enjoys their subject matter and enjoys teaching and genuinely wants to do it, then you should let them continue. The problem only comes when they are socially pressured or monetarily forced into it against their will.
Old people are still PEOPLE, they should be allowed to do what they want as well.
We had a professor who retired, then he started doing extra seminars etc because he liked teaching, so he could still be teaching but also without having to take up the spots of new professors.
Disagree, age shouldn’t block you off from a passion.
? But thats the "Material reality" of Aging ?.... everything has its time .. its starts ..it runs for a while ..it stops ... (Memento Mori)
And thats how it always been ....
110 year old people should not Drive , 88 year old should not teach outside of Alumini shit ... etc ... he had more then a decade with his passion .. its enough...
yes fuck his "individual Passion" . get another one ... Flowers are good
Old people are still PEOPLE, they should be allowed to do what they want as well ,
not if its to the detrement of society... (Think Driving) , they are old ..they had half a century to prepare themself for giving up on their passions ...
you... type... like... a... boomer...

? But thats the “Material reality” of Aging ?.. everything has its time … its starts …it runs for a while …it stops … (Memento Mori)
But, they aren't dead? Not every old person has dementia many are pretty sharp mind wise up to the end.
please descripe in detail what you think my point is exactly , then I might understand your anwser ?
not only that , old peoples "Brain Cell Connections" are not Able to readjust themself Anew ... Their ability to change or excess new information is severly hindered...
Boomer brain is a real physical thing...
A 88 year old Professor will teach a Topics the same way he teached that topic 25 years ago , not implement "new standarts" thereby stagnating not only themself but the Pupils also ...
yeah ... "but he will be sad then"
... sooo let him be a sad retiree , who cares ...
dont be silly ... , lets turn this around , shall we ... on what legitimacy should old people carry on in a Top position until they get tired of it or die in it ...
Good mornin :good-morning:
88-year-old professors are pretty much all Emeritus (ie, retired but still associated with the University with an office and research priviliages) Professors since most unis have you step down from full Prof at 65-70 Years old.
He's already made way, he's just teaching a lecture.
EDIT: yeah, his title is Distinguished Research Professor Emeritus. And he's one of the world experts on the reproductive psychology of non-human primates, which seems like a "Get this guy in to take the class, his students are all Jane Godalling it in the Congo."
Especially weird given that he was probably giving small lectures to students actually majoring in the subject, most juniors and seniors have some respect/admiration for their professors by that point
"Everything has a End , only the Sausage has two… "
loaf of bread tho
i dont blame that individual i blame a systemic concousness that dont get how stuff works
" Stuff works and after some time it stops working"
What does the Article want ? it wants you to be Sad for a fucking 88 year old Prof that "had to" retire ...
it is sooo very stupid ....
The student was given a disposable mask but refused to put it on properly, stating that she "couldn't breathe" and "had a really hard time breathing,"
Sounds like a disability. I'm surprised she could walk to class.
No joke, the covid clause in my uni syllabuses say that students who can’t wear a mask for medical reasons have to file with the office of disability.
My gf seems to think that :frothingfash: work themselves up into having a legit panic attack about putting on a mask. Who knows
Imagine not being able to wear a mask for an 88 year old man and making him quit.
Like, he was 88 and still teaching. Good chance he loved that job.
88 and still teaching in-person classes during a pandemic. No chance about it, dude must have had a really hard time making the decision to quit.
at that age like why give a fuck you know? realistically what are they gonna do? good luck to the guy
If it's cruel irony and you've thought of it, it happened. You can just operate off that presumption and not keep up as much on the specifics.
Don't think a professor is teaching at 88 because he doesn't have enough money.
In 7th grade our entire class behaved so poorly that a teacher had a mental breakdown and quit in the middle of the day. It was awful - she was one of the few teachers who I could connect with at that age.
He didn't just kick the asshole out of class? Big lib martyrdom vibes on this one
Idk about here but at my uni the administration specifically told staff that you’re allowed to request students put a mask on but you can’t kick them out if they don’t, so doing that would’ve just gotten him in trouble rather than making a headline that brings negative attention to the university.
I mean if you're ready to retire over it, getting in trouble shouldn't be a big deal.
The problem is it’s “get in trouble and nothing else happens” vs “quit and get headlines and good PR”
Sometimes your best move is to be a martyr
Also he's 88, dude might literally not be able to take the health risk and finally got fed up and left.
Yeah, it's fucking sad seeing people be so conflict avoidant they tap out every single time. We're seeing this with healthcare and they're basically just abandoning us for us to deal with this shit instead of actually being any sort of allies themselves.
Well, what are you really supposed to do? The power structures in this society are so far stacked in favor of the little goblins running everything into the ground any form of conflict without mass support is effectively futile
What can nurses do except walk out? What can anyone do?
Here Nurses have perfected the art of the slowdown, they don't clean anything that doesn't absolutely need cleaning, they don't do anything that doesn't need doing. If there's an orderly strike at the same time you can watch the Doctors and Admin cave in Real-Time.
Literally anything because they have nothing to lose, especially when it comes to people with privileged positions like doctors and professors. They have the resources, the social cache, the education to know and do better but they don't because they're liberal cowards.
Elderly people who resign to get away from people who refuse to wear masks are cowards
UGA is a public university and the people that decide policy for it are basically all friends with whoever the governor is. Since we have a Republican, none of the public universities in the state are allowed to require masks.
Cause fuck em that's whySo make them fire you. You can make a much bigger stink (shit, you might have a lawsuit) if you get fired than if you quit. And "school fires beloved professor emeritus over mask policy" gets you just as much martyrdom press as "professor resigns over mask policy," if not more.
Sometimes you have to press the issue instead of giving them what they want and hoping they feel bad about it.
This comment has big everyone who disagrees with me is a :LIB: energy
