No market for food there? Are the residents all supposed to lift themselves up by their bootstraps before eating?

They deny the concept of food deserts because there's fast food in those locations, and they didn't bother learning what a food desert is

It's not real capitalism because big gubermint is constraining the Free Market™, which will grant us a utopia if we abolish all market regulations and age of consent laws.

Those people are free to move to another area, the market has spoken etc etc.

Thinking of using this line of reasoning when anti-vaxxers complain about unvaccinated folks being deprioritized in ERs. “We don’t have universal healthcare in this country, it’s not a right - you’re free to change your insurance or provider to find someone who will treat you, it’s the beauty of the American system”

This, or some variation of how it's the community's fault for having high crime, etc. making stores close up shop.

Always remember, capitalism is responsible for every success, and people are responsible for every market failure. We have to morally subsidize the glory of capitalism.

Tbh I read it as "food dessert" and I was really confused about how ice cream invalidates capitalism

There's an underserved market just waiting for someone to move in and make a bundle. Give the people what they're demanding, make them healthy at the same time, make a nice profit doing it, it's like a book example of how capitalism is supposed to work. What's stopping you?

    Depending on your tribe:

    1. The residents are supposed to get a Ford F150 or whatever the Kulturkampfmobil is this year and drive 25 min to the Walmart.

    2. The residents are supposed to make responsible individual consumer choices to make a Whole Foods appear in their neighborhood
