I like that DVD region is a strong marker for national cultural identity.

Japanese writing, architecture, and cuisine are all derived from China and Korea, but they are in DVD region 2 so therefore they aren't Asian.

Yeah it is. It's a reflection of Japan's geopolitical and especially economic alignment with the US. It's a little weird to point it out in a way that sounds like they chose a different region as a pointed way to differentiate themselves from the rest of Asia rather than as a result of the broad aftermath of WWII. Also the cultural identity as being different from the rest of East Asia is of course much older. But yeah, it's an interesting marker that I find funny these nerds noticed because of their particular media consumption.

From what I understand from browsing r/aznidentity, that subreddit is mostly about a conspiracy theory that jewish elites are turning asian men gay so that white people can steal all the asian women. So idk that comment doesn't seem that far off.

A lot of those reactionary Asian subs are filled with "mixed" kids. I've run into a few people like that and they're usually fucked in the head because their dad is usually some racist creep who knocked up some Taiwanese girl. It's pretty sad and weird. The USA is a weird fucking place
