Also yes, most Americans have completely incoherent discrete political stances that have little connection with their daily experiences. I think that was the point. Politics can't be about your daily lives because most people would vote to arrest their bosses and landlords. Most Americans have no structured political identity at all and the ones who do largely do so out of a media aesthetic.
