This has all the makings of being hilarious, imo. I doubt China would respect any restrictions on their state owned enterprises even if they were let in, so I expect a lot of westoid :wojak-nooo: over this.
what's the point of applying to join if they don't intend to follow the requirements of the agreement? either this is a political move designed to show exactly what the TPP is (which would be cool, and good) or it's a pretty lame step for an AES state to be making
This is obviously a political ploy. As I said, why would China give up sovereignty? As I also said, it would be hilarious if they were let in because they definitely wouldn't abide by the rules.
yea, i think you're right, having read a little more about this. it seems pretty obviously a ploy. we'll see what happens but i think my original statement was a bit short sighted here
kinda cringe ngl

true, if you don't take their actions at face value here then it could be pretty funny
depends if they're seriously trying to join or not really
TPP is an anti China alliance and one of the reasons for creating the BRI so I doubt they're serious.
The goal is to subvert it. By joining it China makes it completely irrelevant and useless.
Once again, Xi stays winning :xi-lib-tears:
Even if they join, what's it going to do? Do you really think they'd abide by anything that impinges on their sovereignty?

Comment below calls back to when the Soviet Union applied to join NATO.
