yeah seriously, given the huge budget these hollywood movies get, you'd think they have prop guns that can make flashes instead of using gun powder and "dummy" bullets. Heck they could just have the actors go pew pew and add all the flashes with CG afterwards.

some movies do have the actors mime and add the muzzle flashes in later but then you get the "muh authenticity" weirdos who complain that the fake recoil doesn't look realistic enough.

love too put the cast and crew in danger to please the .1 percent of the audience that would notice fake recoil

Squibs have everything to do with makeup and nothing to do with the prop gun and blanks. You could have super fake shitty guns and good looking impact effects. However, the dry boys have also complained in the past about fake looking guns and recoi effects in movies. So what the fuck, you can have this one.

Recoil effects can also be blamed on the actor. If you need a real kick and can't fake one then fucking never have a death scene.

They make gas operated airsoft guns with realistic enough recoil. You don't need to actually fire a blank. Hollywood could come up with something both safe and good looking but that's not cost effective

There's no chance Matt hasn't said it'd be worth a couple of Brandon Lee's for some squibs lol

It does look like crap but there is absolutely no reason they couldn't make safe prop guns. I cannot overstate how little this would matter for the average film budget and it's an investment in your employees not dying and the costs involved in all that cause you can KEEP THOSE PROP GUNS and use them in subsequent movies. Just make it something that can be installed in a real gun easily. As I posted above, I made something pretty suitable in like a day making it up as I went.

:frothingfash: WHY DOESN'T KEANU HAVE ENOUGH RECOIL WHEN HE BACKFLIPS OVER A DEAD BODY AND SHOOTS HIS GUN!?!?!?

I could fucking build something like that myself that could be reloaded and reused in like, an afternoon. CG muzzle flashes are ass but you could just build a gun around a BBQ starter, using the same trigger with the tip hidden by the barrel, then just pop a tiny satchel of gun powder at the end of the barrel and feed a small wick inside. If you want repeated fire, hire someone. Otherwise you don't get to fire more than once without a cut which isn't a huge deal. Source: I did this before and though it was a bit slow to shoot, this shit was being done for like $200. The tip of the barrel gets burned to all hell and a bigger flash and more smoke would have been really nice but there's only so much explosives I'm willing to DIY and fuck with, you go from cool prop to actual weapon real fast.
