it isn't talked about much in media, because the State of North Carolina is basically a sort of genteel dinner jacket for the industrial pork sector (the largest pork feedlot on planet earth is in Tar Hell, NC)... but whenever North Carolina gets flooding rains, the "lagoons" (multi acre, man-made ponds that hold millions of gallons of pig shit and piss in anaerobic putrescent stasis) overflow into waterways.

i can't really describe the logic of the lagoons because there isn't any. the concrete slabs and traps are blown out periodically with pressure washers into those lagoons where the water evaporates off, eventually, but the piss and shit is held indefinitely without any sort of treatment until a flood even spills some out in an "act of god", allowing the owner to avoid any enforcement penalty for an unlawful discharge. and it's not like NC has a particularly pro-community/pro-environment regulatory environment anyway.

if you were forced to reside in that state for whatever reason, you damn sure better get up into the mountains.

        117 people, 60 households

The Tar Heel Community is home to various churches. Below is the list of churches:

        Love Grove Baptist Church

        Tar Heel Baptist Church

        Tar Heel Free Will Church

Beth Car Presbyterian – listed as a historic site

        Clark's Chapel

        New Life Ministry

        Purdie's Methodist

It reminds me of the hellscape town I rent in right now. One stoplight, four evangelical churches that are colonising everything.

Wtf? I’ll admit I’ve never been a regular church-goer, but I feel like 117 people would be a very normal number for one single church, and doesn’t need to be split among 7? Especially since surely not all 117 people go to church

The first three are baptist churches. https://live.staticflickr.com/8396/8614328699_a53697f920_b.jpg That's Love Grove and 117 people is probably around the fire code occupancy limit.

Just agree to go be racist in one place. Save money on utilities.

Not to get all :so-true: with it, but "putrescent, all-contaminating shit flood" is something I'd expect to happen in Rimworld and not Earth's richest country.

I don't know if I'm more angry at you for :so-true:-ing or for still thinking murica is some kind of place where people care
