I sometimes get the impression that tradcaths just treat Benedict as their anti-pope to get around this.

The Tradcaths would be railing against the introduction of the Tridentine Mass in the 1500s as an innovation if Vatican II hadn't removed it. Also Benedict is not as far removed from Francis as you might think (for both better and worse). He fucking hates the Trads almost as much.

I wish they would set up a legit antipope just for the drama. When's the last time anything funny happened in the world of catholicism

Born-again Christians and tradcaths are two quite different things. I'd say there are much more of the former in America.

If you can manage to pit them against each other, you will have a much better chance of winning a civil war.

I'd say they have a pretty good chance of fighting each other anyways because if there's something that transcends ideologues it's intersectarian infighting

Nah, the Church is rich and big enough that it doesn't need to bother fighting with protestants anymore. Even all those evangelical conmen - they've got their megachurches, and that's cute. Roman See's got its own gold-plated sovereign state.

Of course the church doesn't give a shit, were talking about uppity tradcaths that hate the church but hate protestants more

White Christian Nationalists love Templar imagery despite the fact that the Templars would enthusiastically purge them for being heretics. For some reason you never see them stanning the Roundheads or the Dutch.

I'm now imagining some Ulster Militia bringing forward a Knight Templar to drive immigrants out of Ireland and the Templar instantly ups the RA.

Nah there are a bunch of these freaks in the military. Half the airforce is made up of evangelical psychos from an apocalypse cult, and there's tons of them in the other services thinking that killing brown people is a mission from God.

White Christian ISIS is a US Army infantry dork who shoots civilians and gets away with it because his commanding officer thinks he's a protestant flavored crusader. IDK if people still remember but the holy war rhetoric was pretty thick during the Bush years.

"It could happen here" is a podcast about the possibility of an American civil war and bellingcat is some reporting agency or something that people here don't like because it has ties to the CIA. Honestly though I don't particularly care, his podcasts are decent
