Lol I had a friend quote that book to me. So I asked him what our wonderful friend Aleksandr up there did to end up in the gulag. He didn't know so I made him look it up. Most people get pretty uncomfortable when they are asked to defend a Nazi collaborator*. A few years in the gulag seems like a kindness for a Nazi.

*Edit because collaborator is the wrong word my bad, so sympathizer is a better choice

I can't find the source I had read saying he was a collaborator directly. But there is plenty of evidence he was a sympathizer . Though that link isn't likely to sway any libs.

Thanks! I found that link when I searched briefly. I’ll probably have to do a deep dive on a collection of his letters or something to get a compelling argument. If I do, I’ll try to remember to post it here.

Honestly kind of surprised he gets so much play in the west considering he likes Putin and thinks Ukraine should be part of a greater Slavic Russia.

I can't find the info I once did that he was a collaborator. I had read somewhere that he had been actively working within his own military unit to grow an anti-stalin group, and openly criticizing the soviets for not just making peace with Hitler.

But you can find plenty of evidence of his Nazi sympathy later in life. He was also pretty openly antisemitic.

Probably not a source that will sway any libs though

whenever solzhenitsyn comes up I remember what Varlam Shalamov, a gulag writer said about using his archives:

No bitch from ‘progressive humanity’ should be allowed near my archive. I forbid writer Solzhenitsyn and all those having thoughts similar to his to have acquaintance with my archive.

you'll never guess who used his archive for their works

I remember one time reading on :reddit-logo: that his wife said this book was a total crock of shit and someone made a comment saying his wife was obviously a Stasi agent

I just want to push back on the idea that American media is in any way, democratized by having a single giant company where all videos end up residing. Let alone, social media, or networking, or anything else.

Don't fret about it, capitalism is after all a reactionary ideology so it is given media that spawns out of it are going to be largely reactionary.

If you didn’t clap for 20 minutes after one of Stalin’s speeches, he would smack that ass like a drum
