I work in local government, and that means I work with a lot of police who come by when on breaks or whatever. The other day one said something I'd never expect a cop to say, which was "I'm not completely sure if the violent crime we see more often now isn't part of a strategy of tension on behalf of the feds". I'm not a big conspiracy guy but that seems at least somewhat plausible
this is anecdotal, but a friend of mine works as an organizer in Minneapolis, and from what he's gathered a significant portion of Minneapolitans think Frey/Walz were too soft on protestors during summer 2020
YouTube infographic channels work overtime for the state department
i'm generally apprehensive about the death penalty but i feel like certain crimes like this fit the bill for it. I also feel like 1st degree sex offenses should be eligible for it as well, but that is (strangely) unconstitutional in the united states.
this was out of the University of Minnesota, which has had uhh problems with some of their research in the past too.
this is a reminder that prosecutors and judges hold absolute immunity, a substantially higher level than other civil servants
I'll throw in something here: end the land rent
the need to relocate prevents the creation of strong cities. if you don't know your neighbors, it's hard to create informal means of surveillance, which is crucial to crime prevention. social disorganization theory talks a lot about this.
anger management is huge
most people don't know that a large portion of the homicides that happen in America are due to personal disputes; people pull guns so they don't look like they lost an argument.
there's a quote from a book about collapse that i have saved that's relevant to this:
Suppose you have an old bridge: the concrete is cracked, chunks of it are missing with rusty rebar showing through. An inspector declares it 'structurally deficient.' This bridge is definitely going to collapse at some point, but on what date? That is something that nobody can tell you. If you push for an answer, you might hear something like this: If it doesn't collapse within a year, then i might stay up for another two. And if it stays up that long, then it might stay up for another decade. But if it stays up for an entire decade, then it will probably collapse within a year or two of that, because, given its rate of deterioration, at that point it will be entirely unclear what is holding it up.
to me this describes the state of america very well, literally and metaphorically.
I like the Winkel Tripel projection for putting it on a wall. there's still distortion but it's minimized and doesn't look as wacky as butterfly projection
if I wasn't deliberately spending time on left wing sites I wouldn't know there were protests tbh
this has been known since like, the 30's.
active community that knows each other = high rates of informal surveillance = reduced crime; this is basic social disorganization theory. atomization makes this pretty hard to achieve unless you're in a wealthy area, unfortunately.
this guy was a ticking time bomb. his music video that depicted a school shooting was fucking eerie to watch... some fairly obvious mental problems too
i mean these people are so addicted to selling data they don't have to give it directly to police... police will just buy it from whatever party they sold it to
tbf it kinda sucks ass to have dirtbikes racing around your block in the middle of the night
I don't know if I love this or I hate it
if you keep company with rabid dogs, don't be surprised if you get bit
I have nothing off the top of my head to support this but I feel like the prison situation in the US wouldn't be so bad if state mental hospitals were reformed instead of destroyed.
