Don't really browse there much anymore, and I understand that it's been going mainstream, but it's weird to see multiple people talk to each other about shit that happened in the 60s and 70s. Used to be that someone would pop in once in a while with an anecdote for the younger crowd that they knew they were surrounded by.

  • this isn't to say that boomers can't be chill, but sharing a social space with them en masse would be kinda weird no?
  • also not suggesting that this is some sort of turning point, it's been shit since ever, and especially since 2015 (when I primarily browsed metareddit and by 2017 I was browsing r/cth exclusively)

Edit: The boomer infestation is coming from inside the Hexbear! See the comments below for details...

Edit: I wish I could teach my parents who are way younger than this to use a phone and gramps here is shitposting on an obscure emoji harvesting forum

Also work in IT and open source enough that technically you found the internet that we made.

This is unironically an extremely cool flex :xi-clap:

What really? I knew we had some older gen x folks here but I didn't know we had actual boomers among us.

Much respect, I get a lot of leeway when it comes to talking politics at work and some of the coolest people I have met are the ones that went through the most intense red scare propaganda and still stuck to their communist ideals. :rosa-salute:

No cuz it's hard to talk at length at the cash register but she's a regular and she did give me some names to look up. Without getting too specific here's a tangentially related link https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Seattle_Liberation_Front

Oh also one of her relatives was Eldridge Cleaver's running mate. I imagine if you're among that generation of leftists there's a good chance you at least have mutual friends.

OK cool, I figure if you're here you get the subtext of what I actually mean and all that. I knew we had the occasional older folk on the old sub (I'm guessing you were one of them), but like our other comrades I am a bit amused that you made the jump over here, glad to have you as part of our community!

Just another reason this is the best place on the internet bar none. No downvotes, no fascists, no sectarianism, generational solidarity, quality shitposts and memes, high minded discussion of theory and if I may be so bold a genuine attempt to advance socialist theory. And then there's just cool totally non-political posts about games, hobbies, science, nature etc.

We built something truly unique and special and I am grateful for every one of you here. :red-fist:

Paying my Gen Sigma grandniece to photoshop me into a 3D holo rendering of a grave after I die, she laughs at me and calls me an old reactionary for still using "photoshop" as a verb after the Adobe massacre of 2053, especially since everyone just uses GIMBlender

Yeah, they sound like my parents a lot of the times. And the subreddits that lean younger are filled with incels. The only decent subreddits are the ones that lean heavily LGBTQIA+, at least I feel like I'm talking to decent people on there.

You can still post in BPT if you're white, just not on certain threads where mayos would make a mess of things

Most of the cool kids I know just use discord for communicating and tiktok for aimless browsing. Why waste your time on a middleman.

There are plenty of boomers that i'd enjoy sharing a shitposting zone with. I feel like reddit brain worms are a slightly better brainworm for boomer parent's to be sucked into over say facebook.

My uncle just does milquetoast dem shitposting on facebook all day, picks fights constantly, then goes and rides his bike or goes to the beach, then just roasts a bone in his shed to top off the night. He's still one of the coolest old guys I've met. I'd honestly love his innate 65 year old ability to shitpost in more places around the web.

It definitely is an interesting shift though, how reddit for a long time was a hard millenial age group with some gen x and boomer, and some kids, and a shift to an older demo could have interesting consequences.

Yes any circlejerk sub counts, as well as SRD, and a few years back the circlebroke subs used to be more active. The patriarch (matriarch?) of the family is r/SRS though
