Is it entertaining for solo play or is all the good content pretty much restricted to parties/guilds/etc.?

I played it a bajillion years ago shortly before it became free to play. I had no idea it was still even running.

Old school open world with some PVP areas like Dark Ages of Camelot.

https://www.lotro.com/en/getready this should have the info you need. Also, all expansions (minus the two most recent or something?) are on sale for 99 store points, which makes them cost like 5 dollars altogether I think. The LotRO subreddit has more info

I just made an account in case I'm interested in actually jumping back into it. How do I actually go about entering this code?

I played the game a long time ago but if it still works the same, you can play as the evil factions in a limited sense - only PvP, limited to the PvP zone.

Yeah this is how it works, refered to as playing "creep mode". You basically hunt freeps ("free peoples") in certain areas. It's kinda dead and has been for a while but is about to get a major overhaul apparently

I always try to get back into it and get filtered by how old school it is. It's fun and the combat is better than most MMOs but fuck, the leveling is rough. I think my main left off in the eternal fields that are Rohan.
My dad was pretty hardcore for a while though, he got multiple characters to the level cap lol
