They're something I come back to every couple of years, there's always something interesting at fanedit.org.
Trying to download fanedits can be a stress though - they've been raided by dmca so they have to make it kind of difficult to get the video files.
The whole concept doesn't get enough attention imo. The idea of being able to modify something that the accountants dictated is really attractive.
I made one of Kill Bill: The Whole Bloody Affair, because it was super simple. spoilers for the movies follow, obviously.
spoiler
When The Bride's name in Vol 1 is bleeped, I used that again over the tacked on ending of Vol. 1 when Bill asks Sophia "does she know her daughter is still alive?" bleeping out the "her daughter is still alive part". I also used the color version of The House of Blue Leaves fight, because I know that was the "original" intent, even though I kinda liked the black and white gimmick. Then I just spliced the two together, with an "intermission" in the middle, but I can't remember what song from the series I used for that. IIRC, Tarantino wanted another anime sequence somewhere in there, but it never got made, or at least never got released, so I obviously didn't have that, but its as close as I could get to "The Whole Bloody Affair" cut.
I've always wanted to do a good edit of the Hobbit trilogy because it's so utterly bloated, but I think there's already some good edits out there by people with the same idea.
totally agree about the bloat, never felt the need to go back after the first marathon. ngl tho, I really enjoyed a 30 min edit of just the robot action from the first 3 transformers. what a wild ride.
Some of them can be pretty good. Adywan's version of star wars is fantastic. Spicedivers Dune is pretty good. For new stuff /fanedits/ on :reddit-logo: usually makes it easy to find links. Sometimes a few of the more well-known edits can be found on torrent sites.
Some of them can be great! Watched both of those. Every few months I'll go back and see what the highest voted edits are and try and download a few.
The edits of Payback and The Terminator movie (3?) with the Homeland actor are amazing. I guess I'm talking about the famous edits of these two from years back. I'll watch almost any extended edition or interesting spin on movies I like.
Really, really like finding classic movies rescored with any kind of electonic track. There was a version of the 2nd SW prequel edited in black and white like a 30s flash gordon tv show, with a french house soundtrack, that somehow just worked if you were high enough lol. Can't find it on youtube now.
I watched attack clones phantom edit and for the longest time i wanted to watch one of lynch's dune but yeah impossible to find
lynch's dune is on the piratebay, the spicediver version is best according to the forums I think. definitely worth watching.
tried a few times to set up the jdownloader sw they use but was on shitty connections so never got it working well.
thanks i have long forgotten which edit I was after but i may try that one
:comfy:
Chronologically Lost was cool project. i torrented years ago but never finished it.
Love ideas like that.
Like, I never watched Walking dead and not gonna start now. Watching a good 3 hour edit of the first couple of story arcs, instead of 3 seasons of filler, seems attractive tho.
I got so annoyed of walking dead due to the cyclical nature and a nasty roommate who'd commandeer my tv with his creepy friends to watch the new walking deads and the post game show that talked about the episode they just watched.
I wasn't a big fan before but that made me hate the show.
Lost is forever pure in my heart despite its objective qualities.
Yeah, I'd read the comic or watch an edit of the first couple of seasons at the most, the rw prepper vibe that built up around the later seasons is no bueno. Literally never watched an episode somehow. Post game show lol.
Prison Break is another famous edit that condenses 2 seasons into 2 self contained movies, and does it well.
