Seems pretty innocent tbh, he says great pitcher in the Negro Leagues who went on to be a great pitcher in the MLB which is correct. Trivia: Satchel Paige was the oldest player to ever debut in MLB, at age 42 (because segregation forced him to play in the Negro Leagues for 20 years of his career).

That's the point that Biden's trying to make, he sees a commonality between him and Mr. Paige as he finally got to be President at 78 and keeps trying to sell people on the idea that he can actually do something meaningful. This is the same talking point he used with the Pope recently.

As ungraceful as it is to fail to compose a sentence on the spot by thinking about Paige and the Negro League and fucking up which word Negro was modifying before clumsily correcting himself, this is less racist, than say, when he praised Obama as the first African American in politics that was "clean" and "articulate".

I love Satchel Paige as much as the next guy but this seems like an unforced error on Biden's part.

Right now the RW nutsosphere is railing against Biden for this, and it is bringing out ugly false equivalences.

If he had referred to the Negro Leagues exclusively and said great african american instead of calling someone a "great negro" that might've been a better call.
